Help orientating clothing..slightly embarrassing.(self.Blind)
submitted by Trick-Regret-493
So I lost my vision rather suddenly. And everyday since I have put at least ONE item of clothing and backwards every morning lol can anyone give me any suggestions. I have tried putting puffy paint on the back of some of my shorts and t shirts mostly problematic for tagless items helps only a little like 1/2 right vs 1/4...

I also lost vision very suddenly. In fact I went completely blind for a while, but eventually got some vision back. I try to feel for identifiers like tags and stitching. Nowadays I'm pretty good, but every once in a while my wife will inform me that my t-shirt is on inside out. Woops!

Sometimes you just gotta have a good laugh and keep going.

You can use a small safety pin to attach to one side, so you can feel for it and check it's on the right side (for example, a small safety pin by the right waist or something).

Ok! Thank you maybe I some small ones for sure what about t-shirts same?

You want something subtle, so if the safety pin is on the inside, it would work for both a shirt and pants (or tuck the shirt in). But you do have to be careful about the safety pin coming undone. Another method that is more permanent is having a small, distinctive shaped button sewn to the inside as well.

I also struggle with this sometimes. You can feel a difference sometimes if things are backwards - necklines feel higher for example. Maybe put a bump dot on the back of the shirt or other piece of clothing, calling an Aira or Be My Eyes if you need to. They should be able to help You orient the clothing.

I think a button would work good.

Give it a little more time. As you get more custom to identifying things with your sense of touch, you'll most likely begin to feel the tags or writing on the back of your clothing. However, sometimes it's literally impossible to tell with clothing and maybe you just got unlucky haha.

I'm getting better from when it first happened but still not great. Thanks for the encouragement. I follow you on YouTube.

i use the button technique too, or if not a button, a small round bead.

Basketball type shorts lol

Oh haha. I am generally wearing dress clothes, or jeans and a button down shirt, but even any pajama and casual pants/shorts I have tend to at least have a tie on the front.

It's not very easy to get things inside out because of the seams, but getting a t-shirt or undershirt on backwards is much easier, especially undershirts since they usually don't have tags. Generally the front is a little lower than the back so that's one way to tell. I always notice immediately if I put on an undershirt backwards because to me it feels weird, but perhaps that's not true of everyone.

I can usually tell when my shirt is wrong right away. The shorts not until I go to use my pockets and they're on my butt...

Don't all pants have a zipper in the front? I'm confused.

I think socks are actually the trickiest, especially dress socks. Thankfully I have my wife to sort and match them when we do laundry.

For shorts and underpants there’s usually strings in the front for the shorts and a front for the pants that you can feel.
For T-shirts, as seone else said, you can feel its on backwards. For trousers/pants, the strings go in the front and the tags are in the back.
