Seeking thesis help (self.Blind)
submitted by iszere
Hi, I'm working on my thesis project in industrial design and would really appreciate some feedback from others that are not fully sighted- I had been working with a school for the blind here in Mexico City but haven't been able to go during the pandemic.

I'm Interested in creating tactile feedback to help those who have recently lost their sight refamiliarize themselves in their homes without sight (and possibly be used for hotel rooms to be more inclusive to those who aren't fully sighted). Would be focusing on wall/floor feedback to help find wall outlets, necessary wall switches, any corners in the wall, perhaps where the bathroom is. Do you think this would be actually helpful for you or someone you know? Don't want to design something well-intentioned but useless. I'd love to know your opinion. Thank you so much.

I think the hotel room thing is great but most blind people have memorized their homes. It’s the one place we usually are completely comfortable.

thank you! if someone who is blind has moved, do you think it would be helpful as they memorize their new home? how long do you think it would take for you to memorize a new home?

I'm legally blind in the US. Your ideas sound great. How about including an app that could tell you where things like telephone, remote, bathroom and other things are in hotel rooms. I love the wall outlet idea I can never find them. Would be helpful in shopping malls is something on the floor, tactile, could point you too different areas, such as, bathroom, exit, food area... Keep up the good work, contact me if ya want!

thanks so much! i'm staying away from apps as my thesis requires a physical object/product, but the shopping malls is a great idea. I will contact you as i keep developing this, i appreciate it :)
