Any guitar players on here? (self.Blind)
submitted by Notafakeinterpreter
I know an 8 year old blind girl who wants to learn guitar. Her last teacher quit because they got frustrated she couldn’t read music. I wanted to see if there was anybody on here who would maybe be open to teaching her virtually (or in person if you’re located in southeastern Pennsylvania!). I don’t know if anybody personally so I figured I’d ask on here!

I may be the person you're looking for!

I have a BA degree in music, taught part time in the music departments of two blind schools, have stage and studio experience, and, I've been teaching blind and sighted students privately for over 15 years now. I write all my practice notes in plain English and they can be read by a screen reader, or, a Braille display. I'm in CT but can teach remotely. (That's the only teaching I've been doing for over a year now due to the pandemic.) Feel free to get in touch and I'll get you my contact info to pass on! I'd be happy to talk with her parents. Thanks.

Hi there, guitarist here. Although I am quite young, I think that with a bit of training, I'd make a somewhat competent guitar teacher.
Now, I may not be Herman Li, or at the least not yet, but I try to improve my skills every time I pick up a guitar, and know theory like the back of my hand.
Unfortunately I never until recently started practicing the guitar with a pick which I find extremely difficult and irritating, so I will only be teaching guitar using the fingers of the picking hand.

I don't have any experience as a teacher but I make a full time living playing guitar. I'm based in London but I'm in Canada working right now so it's all completely doable. Yes, not being able to read music is a pain professionally because you often get last minute stuff sent over by email, but I have a couple of buddies who I endlessly owe dinners to who play stuff out for me so I can rehearse it. If you're just learning for fun I don't really see what the problem is. Some of the music theory stuff is easier if you can see the notes but that shouldn't stop anyone becoming a completely competent guitarist. I learned after I lost my sight.

That other guy is way more qualified than I am but I would be willing to. Been playing for fifteen years.
