A question about applying for jobs that’s been asked before but with a twist (self.Blind)
submitted by blind_cowboy
When applying for jobs in the past, I’ve always waited until I went in for an interview for them to discover I am blind. I figure, at that point, I am there to prove I can do anything they ask.

That doesn’t translate well when applying for remote. At what point would you let them know you were blind? Many companies want you to use their computer so I can’t just avoid it. I’m going to have to mention needing a screen reader.

I was about to hit the final round of interviews.

I would wait till you get the job, however if you want to tell them in the interview have solutions ready.

So I'm blind, this means I'll need a screen reader, however many are free and easily downloadable.

I'm blind and have successfully working in an office environment before.

I think initially once they hear the word, their heads will say no, but if you have some immediate positives it could help them come around to the idea

I just saw this. Anyway, I had to mention it. I learned in the interview that a small portion of the position involves examining photos. I explained that I am blind and explained screen readers and their abilities and limitations.
