I’m 42 and in school now for my MA. Get with your state agency, money is out there! DSS and accommodations are super helpful, you’ll need to work with an RC to get them set up. In my experience scantron no longer exist, every test is online.

I finished my undergrad in 2009 and honours in 2010 without any special arrangements etc. I doubt the uni even knew I was legally blind. I'm returned to uni this semester to do law. I'm 33 and in Australia.

I contacted my university's disability services team prior to starting. They arranged a disability access plan that outlined accessibility measures including a week's extension on all assignments no questions asked, course materials all made available in the format of my choice, and alternative exam arrangements (PC with NVDA, extra reading and completion time).

I also attended the campus with a support worker to have a walk around to identify the rooms I'd be and pathways. (I'm attending the same university I did as an undergrad, but the campus has change a little in the past decade. Also I can't read maps and room numbers any more).

An accessibility consultant provides me my readings ahead of time in Word format. Everything is very electronic these days and I've been able to access journals, cases, legal dictionaries and encyclopedias, and more recent books all online. My topic coordinators have been supportive too, and I had one on one conversations with a couple at the start of the semester to discuss needs etc. (I'm required to provide my disably access plan to my topic coordinators at the start of the semester).

While your experience will likely be different given you're in the US, I doubt it'd be detrimentally so.
