Has anyone gotten there declaration of legal blindness reversed?(self.Blind)
submitted by zzaacckk8
I am very nervous because I go back to get my eyes tested soon and I believe I will be around. The legal limit and there is no way in hell I would ever be able to operate in motor vehicle or travel safely in one. I'm getting training and things through the commission of New York and different health benefits if I have more than 15° of vision will I no longer qualify or is there a level of low vision in between blind and sited that I can fall under? And is it 15 degrees and all directions c Because my down scan is only about 8⁰ with not much improvement. Anyone have experience with anything like this? Note my accuity is fineish.

It's probably going to be defined in state statutes. You might be able to find the strict definition for visual field defects. I know SSA has a published guide on how they determine blindness, but not sure if NY state has somethings similar or not.

> At night i need support or a very strong flashlight but I can still make it no cane needed
Honestly, it sounds like you need a cane at night at least then.
I've encountered plenty of people who learned that the hard way, falling down a flight of stairs or tripping into a street.
You don't *need* to be a certain degree of blind to benefit from using a cane, and putting it off only limits your life.

Fitting? 13⁰ compared to 120-185⁰ Idk As someone who had perfect site and now what I have I can't agree with you I'm glad you manage tho I cannot seem to and not for lack of effort.

Yes I am blessed with an improving condition. I'm at about 15-18⁰ as have being fully sited my previous 28years I don't think I will resume driving If I continue to improve until I feel safe like it floors me that I you can drive with 21 like what! Like I still struggle to find the clock on an unfamiliar wall so I won't be trying to get behind the wheel. Humans have about 130 ø 20, seems nuts.

20/200 or less than 15⁰ in NY. But could you really drive down the street with 20⁰. My understanding is yes but in reality I would NEVER hit the expressway w it. Idk I'm nervous bc I may lose my help with my insurance and such. When that comes. Maybe 39'⁰… but 15∅ personally I don't think is safe. Idk.

Federal law defines Legal Blindness as 20/200 in better or 20° or less. Depending on your diagnosis I can’t imagine your field has improved?
Quick Google tells me: All services are available to New York State residents who are legally blind. Legal blindness is defined as having a visual acuity of 20/200 or less in the better or stronger eye with best correction, or a restricted field of vision of 20 degrees or less in the better or stronger eye.
