Sirius/XM (self.Blind)

\*NOTE\* internet based solutions don't apply in this situation!

I do tech for a blind person and when our cable co goes IP TV and the Tivo is no longer, she wants to try going to XM/Sirius. Does anyone know of a receiver that is well suited for the blind, big bonus points for spoken feedback?

My husband is blind.

We use any Alexa device, Once it is linked to your Sirius account, you can say to it, ""Älexa play the Beatles channel from Sirius XM" and it will play!

My hubby loves the older model called the "Tap"as it is portable and recharable. We say it today's equivalent of the 1960s transistor radio, except it can play everything, every radio station - its really nice.

We listen to any radio station we want, plus Sirius on it, and podcasts and more.

If only a voice assistant was an option. She is very privacy minded, and does not have internet, so no Alexa/Siri/Google. This may eventually change in time when it's absolutely not a choice, but until then...

An iPad or iPod touch with the xm app on it and voiceover turned on is going to be your best bet. That, or link it up to something like Amazon Echo or Google Home to control by voice. The problem is, unless you sign up with an actual receiver, you're not going to get all of the news, sports, and talk content; just music. However, online streaming is included when you subscribe with a receiver, and the online streams sound hundreds of times better than anything over the air. Her best bet would be to find someone who has a car and wants XM, and split a subscription with them. She gets exclusive access to the online streaming part, and they get access in the car.

Anything relying on the internet is out in this case.

I don't think anythin that doesn't use the internet exists like this.

Is there a US equivalent to this?

I think Sirius is digital radio but I’m not certain

Digital, yes, but not from land-based towers in most locations(Sirius/XM is Satellite radio). Given Alaska's high latitude, and sparse population due to geography and federal land ownership, I'd be very surprised if they had a transmission tower in Anchorage.
