is there an app that reads just the text on movies/TV? (self.Blind)
submitted by Liquidcatz
So I'm only functionaly blind, so I can still see blurry shapes. I'm not a big fan of audio descriptions. I rather just listen to what I'm watching and I can see well enough to more or less tell what's happening visually. However the one thing I can't stand is when someone in a movie is supposed to be reading something like a text message, and what's said in the text message is crucial to the plot. Because I can just barely make out they are texting the first place. Absolutely no idea what's being said. So is there an app that just read crucial words/text/signs/etc. on screen and nothing else?

The app SeeingAI for IPhones might help, you'd have to turn voiceover on but when you pointit at the screen, it should read out what it seas but keep in mind it won't be acurat all the time.

The only thing I know of is a lion ocr addon for nvda, but you'd have to watch films on your computer. It basically reads everything on the screen, but you can set the time gaps between recognising and it works very well for subtitles, I think it could work with a text in movies too.

Maybe you can use audio descriptions with a short delay like 5 or 10 seconds. Then when you hit a scene that is confusing you turn on the audio description and itells you just after the fact?
