How do I get a caregiver? (self.Blind)
submitted by OldManOnFire
I don't have any idea where to begin. Google wasn't much help and I didn't find anything in the r/blind archives.

My daughter suggested I look into it and that it wouldn't cost me anything.

Is this a Social Security benefit? (Yes, I'm American and legally blind, but my Social Security claim won't be processed until December.) Or is it administered by another agency? Does anybody have experience in this area?

Thanks!

A family member could actually do it and be paid to do it through Medicaid. You would apply as you would with your other benefits and they should be able to get you a case worker I believe through disability services.

On the other hand, if you don't want a family member to do it. There's usually a registry of qualified caregivers. You can have your caseworker email you a list, or you can probably access the registry online, I know mine is, and do it this way.

I would contact your state's commission on the blind.

Your state has an agency that does this. It isn't the commission. It's the agency that deals with the Medicade benefits.
