Are there sites, groups or other avenues where disabled singles can meet (self.Blind)
submitted by [deleted]
Are there any groups or sites out there where disabled singles can meet? I've tried regular dating apps and I'm rather tired of one or all of the following happening.

You can't drive? Not interested.

You meet the girl's family and they pull her aside and say, "what are you doing with him? You could do a lot better." Or variations on that theme.

Your partner feels superior to you, however unconsciously.

Being prejudged. Sorry, my mother/father/insert some other person was blind, and I don't want anything to do with you as a result.

I'm just tired of all that. So, do we have avenues for singles to meet without having to deal with all that garbage?

With all due respect, what you're describing is dating in general, not just dating when disabled. Everyone has to put up with players, gold diggers, judgemental families, impossible expectations, and prejudice against certain careers/cultures/education backgrounds. Being blind is a handicap, no doubt, but everyone in the world is handicapped in some way.

Being unable to accept someone's blindness is just another handicap. If someone is so shallow that they can't get through a first date with you because of your blindness you probably dodged a bullet.

Let me step down from my soap box and answer your question. Here's a link to a few dating for the disabled websites. I haven't tried any of them so I have no idea how good they are, but here's a page with the links -

And if you want a site specifically for visually impaired dating, https://www.visuallyimpairedsingles.com/

To a point, yes. However, when you're being turned down because you can't drive, that's definitely because you're blind. Not just a general thing. When assumptions are made about you based on eroneous data or previous experience with blind people that are not necessarily representative of the hole, that's also specific. The pulling her aside and saying "what are you doing with that, you could do a lot better" thing, however, can definitely be applied to a lot of things. And as I said in my post, I'm just so tired of being made to feel second class because of something I can't control.

I've only ever got the feeling of complete acceptance from one individual, and she has been dead for almost three years now. She was my best friend, not a romantic partner. However, because of her influence, I know what i'm looking for in a partner. And being condescended to or treated like a monkey doing a particularly good trick ("oh wow, you can cook blind? That's just so amazing") is not on the menu, so to speak. So I thought I might have better luck trying to find a partner that has a similar outlook on life as I do.

That really isn't an answer to the question, though I did see that post. Thanks though.
