What do you do for an adrenaline rush, fun and excitement? (self.Blind)
submitted by Carnegie89
I am having difficulty finding something to do. Being legally blind makes most things complicated. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Dancing!

My wife and I dance to Depeche Mode and The Cure at a local 80s club every weekend. Now that I'm blind we hold hands while we dance so I don't dance into people but that's the only concession we've had to make. Nobody at the club knows I'm blind and if they found out I don't think anyone would care.

It's good cardio and great fun.

You had me at Depeche Mode! And The Cure haha. If you had mentioned The Smiths then we’d be best buds. 👍🏼

You must be the son and the heir to some great musical heritage

Indoor skydiving is really cool! You can't really get hurt and instead of doing hand signals, they'll do signaling by touch. I don't know how common those places are though.

That sounds fun. I have to check if my city has something like that.

Also real skydiving! You can really get hurt, but you 99.99999% probably won't. Fun as hell though and you'll be attached to a professional who will do all the work for you. I also love me some roller coasters.

If you can find a friend and a big enough parking lot, drive a car. My buddy let me do this with his van the other day, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much fun I found it to be. We just went back and forth from end to end, him telling me when to turn/how hard to turn, and I’m sure I didn’t get over 10-15mph, if that, but I had a good time.

I used to guide for blind skiers. I think that does it. We would strategically choose wide runs with a nice clean slopes. Rowing/sailing can be good in a boat with more than one person. Also check out the Mountain Film festival film called Feel the Vision directed by Tucker Gragg (2018) for inspiration!

How do I find a guide, for running or any other physical activity?????? I’ve asked friends before, but they feel they need some sort of training/expertise or they’ll kill me…. (I told them not to worry as the boredom is doing a great job of that already.) hahaha

We actually didn't have any training as guides either. I suppose there is a little risk in everything, but mitigated accordingly. Obviously we weren't going to do any runs with rock fields or trees. I think perhaps starting with groups and organizations might be key. What region are you located in?

There is a group called United In Stride that pairs sighted guide runners with VI runners. You can indicate what part of town you want to run in, distance and pace preference and the like.

I am hoping to be a sighted guide runner for someone - but there are no VI runners listed in my area, just people wanting to be guides!

You could also check in with your local running store. They probably have group runs and the chances are good that someone at a group run would be happy to be a guide for ya.

My partner and I have planned to try skiing this year. Hopefully, there's enough snow. It's unseasonably warm in my area right now.

Rappelling off of buildings. Ok, I only did it once, and I'll need to be bribed to do it again.., but I did it, and had quite the shot of adrenaline.

In all seriousness though, goalball is super good for this.

Theme parks are great!
Carnegie89 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
That completely escaped my mind. That's a great idea.

I'm glad you like it.

Traveling and do it alone as a blind person adventure of your life. I traveled to 6 states in two weeks as a totally blind single woman in her mid 20s that was fun I tell you. Only if I had the money to do it over and over again.

I have a gym down my street where I run on the treadmill and use the stationary bicycle, I sometimes lift weights but only if I have someone watching me.

I like to go out to concerts whenever I can find one, music always fills you with life.

I like amusement parks, it's been ages since I went to one, but I like roller coasters and any type of attraction.

I like movies particularly Marvel, Star Wars, the Terminator(first three were the best) and looking forward to the Dune movie. I watch all movies with described captioning.

I work out regularly. It used to give me some excitement but not anymore. An amusement park is next on my list to try

For adrenaline, I went bungee jumping once. I’m glad I did it, but I wouldn’t do it again because I don’t need that much adrenaline more than once. But I didn’t have any accessibility issues doing it.

I never thought about that, that’s an interesting question
