Learning another language (self.Blind)
submitted by NoClops
I’d really like to learn some languages besides this one. I’ve taken the most classes in French, a few in German, and one in Spanish. I’d also love to learn Hebrew. I’m going to start with French, though, as I have the most experience with it (college courses), and since I’m on my own now, I figure I’ll try out some apps. Please, which apps are most compatible with VoiceOver? I have changed the language setting on my phone in the past to French, and I have the french VO voice already set up in my rotter (sp). Merci!

ETA: I’m also interested in suggestions on other methods. What worked well for you as a blind learner? One thing that stuck in my memory is that my teacher always told me I was learning in the most natural way by focusing on speech/conversation. I only started to pick up on the spelling after maybe my third class.

ETA 2/ thoughts on Babel or Mango? (PS I’ll probably edit to ask as I discover more apps0

Duolingo is accessible with voiceover.

Have you used the audio lessons part? I can’t figure out how to select/activate them.

Edited: typo

My issue with Duolingo is homophones and spelling. It used to let me one finger browse lettter by letter but one update or another stopped this working

That’s strange. I just downloaded it the other day, and it lets me go leter by letter. What language are you lear’ning?
LilacRose32 2 points 1y ago
French. No idea what the exact issue is

I haven’t had trouble with the audio lessons so far.

Do you hapen to know if they need to be unlocked or something by reaching a certain level of work or anything? I click the audio tab/section and see the list of them, but nothing seems to be clickable. PS what language are you using it for?
Berenice101 2 points 1y ago
You need to reach a certain level to use it.
I’m using French by the way.
