What is your definition of beautiful? (self.Blind)
submitted by the_quirky_grandma
I am not blind or visually impaired but I had a question for this specific community. I am a artist/designer and I realize how often design is made to be functional + visually appealing; however, this isn’t inclusive of all people. Often times designs are created only to be functional for those with low vision or limited vision, but the idea of beauty is forgotten. So what is this community’s definition of beautiful? How can designers make functional + beautiful things for people who might not be able to see? Thank you!!

I think for me in most cases, beauty is something that makes me feel good, or makes me feel any other emotion in a very intentional, conscious way. Like, a song can make you sad but yet be beautiful because the artist conveys the emotion in a fantastic way. Or even a punk song can convey anger in a beautiful way.

I agree 100% the meaning behind art can be the most beautiful part. Personally, I have some sight still and really enjoy Van Gogh. I know that's a basic answer, but his style is visually pleasing to me. I'll admit I went through a Van Gogh phase in Jr. High. So, I do know limited history about his works. That could contribute to my fascinating. With that in mind, I would say meaning and the backstory makes visual art accessible.

I love feeling textures as much as the next person, but I haven't been moved by any "texture art pieces"
