Car in the crosswalk @ red light (self.Blind)
submitted by Mamamagpie
So today I had to navigate around the car blocking the crosswalk.

I think I used a bit more force as I moved my cane. I don’t care if it was an ahole move.

There's a quote from one of the kids in the documentary Crip Camp. He said something like, "to survive handicapped, you need to be an asshole."

I'm an asshole. From my perspective, if the world won't be considerate to us, then we will force them to. I'm not here to educate people. I didn't sign up to do that in my life. I signed up to live my life, and if your ignorance won't let me do it, then I will force you to.

One of the "hidden tax" of being handicap is we need to be nice. it's a survival mechanism. If we aren't nice, then people won't help us. Fuck that shit.

Theres a video that crops up on my social media from time to time.

Cars stopped in the crosswalks. Lots of teenagers and kids trying to walk across the street.

Instead of going around, they just climb over the car.

Today a car was parked in the crosswalks and serendipity happened. Rude drive, parking utility officer, and my cane hitting the car all in the same place. The officer said, “That is why you don’t park in the crosswalk.“

I had that happen to me last week. I make no apologies for any scratches or dents I may cause.
