What happens if you are out and about and your cane breaks?(self.Blind)

Do any of you take an additional spare cane with you. I'm going out a lot more and to different cities and am worried about being stranded without my cane. Just wondering what others do?

Not exactly an answer to your question but I remember when I was hiking once and my cane got snapped. Mind you I was using an NFB cane at the time so they were pretty weak. I literally had to snap a branch off the tree do use as a makeshift cane before I could get down. If you have an amber tech cane, personally for me the chance of it breaking is really low. But if you do have a NFB cane, I’d recommend keeping a spare in your backpack or purse or whatever.

Thanks I do have amber tech cane and it is, incredibly sturdy but it was just a thought.

For reference I use a Bob Riley straight cane. I’ve only had NFB straight canes or the telescope canes snap while walking. Most of the time I haven’t had a backup with me, so I just flip the cane so that the handle is on the ground until I get home.

I keep a spare at home, but don’t usually have one with me, as it’s one extra thing to carry. I like to keep extra cane tips at home, too.
However, I did have my cane break once in the middle of a busy train station, and had to get staff help because I couldn’t navigate the crowds without bumping in to several people. It was an old cane, and the elastic snapped. It’s the only time I’ve had something like that happen.

Spare, definitely spare. You can also carry some spare elastic cord because usually I find what goes is the elastic. But better than that you can also replace the elastic when it starts to lose its bounce and end up with a cane that works better and is less of a pain to fold and unfold. If you do that it's less likely to break in the first place.

I never thought of this! How do I restring my cane??? It desperately needs it.

Mine didn't snapped it felt trough storm dtrain. I had to use tree branches, umbrellas, feeling terrain with feet. I don't Carry spare bc they take space, add weight, if someone would stole my bag i would lose it. I leave it home.

I was lucky enough to have a blind neighbor who let me borrow her spare until I could order a new one then I made sure to order an extra NFB cane to keep at home as a spare, I’m thinking of buying a telescopic one to keep in my bag for emergencies while out and about.

I just Mcgiver it. For a while, I had a thing going where about once a month I would get out of the pickup to hook up a trailer or off the ranger toe work on something and lean my cane against it. I would forget it, and my wife would run over it.

At least a few of my blind/low vision clients that do lots of travel outside (bus system, walking around town) pack a folding spare.

Ok, how have I not thought about this before. This is, concerning. I probably should take a spare

Nor had I, I didn't know if I was worrying for no reason or if it be sensible to keep a spare.
