I don't know, how much money is a large amount of money? Anyway, buy him some spa passes so he can go get a nice massage whenever the mood hits him.

Maybe an Alexa device and some smart home stuff? You could help him set it up, and it’s low tech from there. I love being able to set my thermostat by voice for instance. Or a tv with a voice remote so he can play what he likes? Or a Netflix subscription? They have loads of movies and tv shows with audio description which describes what’s going on for blind viewers

if you truly want something that can help him with his visual impairment. Please google American Association for the blind!
I am in Canada so we have CNIB which has a ton of accessible games, cooking tools, how to activities, woodworking, gardening, sewing, sports, and literally 1000 other things that could be interesting.
Like I’ve seen mentioned here quite a bit, it’s not gifts for the blind, it’s gifts of interest for people who happen to be visually impaired. Finding out something more personal like hobbies, interests, or something he wants to get into or wishes he could do but can’t with the tools he has now would be best

The first question you need to ask is what does your dad generally enjoy? Does he have hobbies like homebuilding, reading, etc.? Once you find out what sort of stuff he likes, do some research and see if there are either adaptions/assistive technology/blind friendly options if necessary. For instance, if he loves to read, maybe you buy him an audible membership or an E reader… Don’t know what your budget is, but U get the point.

My hubby really wants some accessible home gadgets. Maybe your dad would like something like that too?

Along this line, a talking bathroom scale, a talking alarm clock, or an echo dot with an Audible subscription might be good.

I think cash would be the best option as he'd then be able to buy what he likes.

OK, what about asking him what he'd like.
If he's not a fan of tech, then perhaps some shirts or deodorant?

How much is a "huge sum of money?"
What's your budget?

I think it is worth considering what you would buy him if he were sighted and work from there.
My sighted dad always appreciates toiletries and fancy coffee

I think what they are trying to say is, a lot of gifts aren’t dependent on sight to enjoy them. Does he need a new razor? Socks? Maybe something new for the kitchen if he cooks? New shoes? The list goes on.

Maybe he would enjoy a new cane? I get a new one once a year but I’m a heavy traveler. Or maybe a new deck of Braille cards. You could also get him an audible gift card. Or an Uber or Lift gift card if he uses those. An Instacart gift card could work too if he uses that. I’m a horrible gift giver if you can’t tell.
