I've been asking for a blue baseball hat that has "handi" in white font on it just because.
SqornshellousZ 2 points 1y ago
Stand on the corner in a dress and you'll make $50. lol

a friend once gave me a handicapped sign that was being tossed because of it's age. He put a big sticker over the wheelchair person that has a wheelchair person on it like the original, except they are smoking a bong. my friends are great sometimes :)

Next time I bang my head I will scream that I fliped heads, and when I trip I'll scream tails.

I wear a hat when I'm hiking, because limbs (and ticks), but otherwise, nah. If I were a guy I might, but it seems weirdly socially unacceptable for women to wear hats, at least the hats I'd want to wear in the area where I live.

I wear a hat because I think it's cool. Black felt cowboy hat kind of thing, black leather jacket, black shirt, black pants, black boots. Hmm, no wonder people say I'm intimidating...
Rokwind -1 points 1y ago
Well I hope you check out the video anyway. Though I have to ask. If your blind and can't see people looking at you, then why do you care about what they think of how you are dressed? Hats can be quite fashonable.

you do you. I am just sharing a blind hack that I learned about the hard way. In the hopes that maybe a few blind people don't have to end up with facial scars like me. :) Be well and live the life you dream.
codeplaysleep 1 points 1y ago
You're making a lot of assumptions there...
Rokwind 1 points 1y ago
I think I am only making one assumption. So your not blind? I think that was the only assumption I was making. If I am wrong then my bad. I thought you were blind, seeing as we are on the blind sub reddit.
codeplaysleep 1 points 1y ago
You assumed hadn't watched it - I did

You assume my particular type of blindness means I can't see other people - it doesn't

It seemed like you assumed I was being negative - I wasn't and I'm sorry if it came across that way. I was actually agreeing with you because I do find it useful in some situations. I was just also staging why I don't do it more. I'm just not in places where low-hanging things at head-height is common enough to do a thing that's generally not seen as socially acceptable (even if it being seen that way is silly and plays into gender stereotypes or what have you).

And just because you can't see something (e.g. people looking at you) doesn't mean you can't be concerned about the social impact. Tons of people, for instance, feel self-conscious when they start using a cane because of the way they think people will perceive/judge them.

Or maybe it just weirdly triggered a little bit of insecurity on my part and I was the one making assumptions - and for that I apologize. :) You're all good - I was accidentally being a bit of a jerk. I'm sorry.

because my head gets cold...? I am just kidding, I haven't actually watched it yet but it seems a bit interesting.

Edit: Watched some of it, and it seems quite unnecessary to wear a hat all of the time. If any of ya'll need O&M training, get it if you can.

I'm in my early 30s, and I've always joked that I'm not going to wear the stereotypical wide brimmed hat and dark glasses until I'm forty haha.

In all seriousness, I think like anything else it's a balancing act. I'm not comfortable always wearing a hat and glasses right now due to my self-image. But I think experts would point out that you reduce the possibility of being injured by a prickly tree or similar barriers at head height. Sometimes these are difficult to detect with a cane, and guide dogs don't always pick these up either.

That said, it's absolutely a personal choice and like I said, a balancing act. Technically we're all safer if we wear vests with bright yellow stripes like traffic cops, but clearly we're not all going to do that. We all have to evaluate what's right or appropriate for our needs. When I was in university, you definitely wouldn't catch me with a wide brimmed hat and glasses. When I'm fifty and don't care about my self-image as much? Maybe.

I wrote alot down. I mentioned about how DBS ILA ACB NFB and my local lighthouse all agree with hat wearing in my local area. I also wrote more down then deleted it all because I reread your comment and came to the realization that your just trying to get a reaction. so heres your reaction.

are you ok?
HeftyCryptographer21 1 points 1y ago
I didn't mean it in a shitty way, I was just kind of making my point in a joking fashion I guess? I am sorry I came off that way. Making videos that can help other people is a neat thing. Can I ask if you live in a particularly dangerous area?
Rokwind 1 points 1y ago
It's cool mate. So many people on reddit are just on reddit to get rises out of people that I start assuming and that's wrong of me. When I was going to school I had to live where I could afford it. Student Ghettos can be dangerous as hell but also pretty fun. These days I live in a somewhat safer neighborhood but most consider it a ghetto of some sort. Honestly though, with landlords always increasing the rent and utility companies wringing me for every drop of cash I cannot afford to live anywhere else. Hence why I created a YT channel, I need to find a better place but I have no resources but my education so I will utalize that education with YT to find my escape route.
HeftyCryptographer21 1 points 1y ago
yeah, fair. I am in university right now, and it can definitely be hard.
