Windows 11 thoughts? (self.Blind)
submitted by Altie-McAltface
I have an evaluation copy running in a VM. I've learned the hard way not to upgrade critical systems right away.

So far most of the accessibility stuff looks the same, but they seem to have overhauled the high contrast themes. I might miss the classic purple/cyan/yellow they've used for decades, but it'll be worth it if they manage to keep things consistent across the OS and if there's good app support. Right now it's difficult to keep using high contrast 24/7 because some app or website will inevitably end up with black on black text.

I haven't messed with narrator or installed NVDA yet.

So what about you?

I don't use high contrast themes, but I'm sure they screwed something up because even on updates for windows 10 there usually seems to be some change that makes things worse when navigating some sites.

For screenreaders you're mostly fine as long as you update your stuff. JAWS 18.0 obviously isn't going to fly on it, and some things were altered or broken in such a way that having the latest version definitely helps. NVDA same deal, you want to be on the latest stable version, or at least have the latest version of App Esentials addon.

No. Looks trashy.

I plan to stay with Windows 10 until EOL. Geez I'm getting old.

Well there's a reason I didn't upgrade my hardware. I've heard it said that every other version of Windows is good. Windows 8 and 8.1 were hated, then win 10 came out and, aside from the telemetry (which you can gut for the most part with some tricks with the hosts file) people seem to be OK with it. This means win 11 won't be good.

Modding the host file isn’t really stopping telemetry btw.
