I've been hearing about this technology for almost 3 decades now, and it doesn't seem to be advancing at all, quite the opposite, as I've heard of experiments with a lot more electrodes than this one. Those 96 electrodes are only enough to make a 12 by 8 array of them, which is not enough for anything.

I won't settle for anything less than 64000 electrodes, enough for a resolution of 320x200, and even that is very low, especially if it doesn't have color.

Given the stagnation of this technology, I bet that there will be a way to completely regenerate an optic nerve long before this becomes useful to anyone.

I've always said very clearly that I will take this when it comes. I'm not one of those people who will sit here and say I don't want it just to seem like I don't care.

I would happily take anything that lets me pick up a coffee without feeling around for it, read some sort of text even if it has to be giant, and walk down unfamiliar streets easily. I don't care if it's super low resolution and crappy, it's higher resolution than the cane.

About the only thing that would make me hesitate is if it were a once only thing, if you had a really basic version, then it maybe would stop you having a better version in the future, but that could become a reason never to do it.

This is not a political thing for me, this is a practical thing. I have a life to lead. I don't really envy sighted people except when they can do stuff so fast. I know what good sight is like and I know what I'm missing. People will stake me like a vampire for saying this but it's a fact, being blind makes you slow and I would like to be able to spend that extra hour in bed. I would like not to feel sleep deprived all the time. I would like not to feel like I am doing two jobs the whole time just dealing with the situation I'm in. Anything that gets me out of that, I'm all over it.

I was born blind and think this tech is amazing, yes it advances sloly and perhaps newer and quicker/better things will be found out but the more tests scientists/doctors have, the better.
