Something that goes off the end of nàil clippers like a guard. It could maybe be a snap on to existing clippers or new clippers with a guard. I HATE nail filing and always having sore fingers and toes days after I hack them to bits.

Thank you for sharing this! I hope I understood this correctly if not please feel free to correct me. Do you mean a gurad to help you cut the nails without shaping them in an irritating way? Or rather a guard to prevent hurting yourself? Either way it kind of seems like an utensil that should definitely already be available like any other clipper.

Like a guard of sorts to prevent you from cutting too short. Might be able to be done with a few posts or something off the clippers idk seems very doable for some sort of guard to prevent cutting nails too short.

For nail clippers.

The flexible grips sound like a worthy pursuit. Making something useful, manufacturable, and inexpensive would be great.

Accommodating different sizes is something various clamping mechanisms do, so taking inspiration from self-sizing clamps, Oxo Good Grips products, etc., could lead in an interesting direction.

Even if there are other ideas you could pursue, the clamp/holder is something concrete you could pitch to local groups. They may be more interested once you have something specific to offer.

Good luck!

Have you read the pinned post?

Hi, yes I did and it was really helpful. It is just that I have already contacted my local blind communities and get no answer or people that are interested. This subreddit is kinda one of my last options to get in contact with blind folks. I just want to talk to people and not passively learn and educate myself. I hope this clarifies/justifies the reason why I still posted it.

Great! The reason I ask is you have to do that groundwork anyway and people here are experts only from their perspective: heading a wrecked car doesn't make you a mechanic.

With that out of the way, I think I'd like to have some sort of all purpose clamping solution, like the helping hands you use for soldering, but more flexible on application. Something I can use to stabilize vegetable on a cutting board, but also to hold some mechanical or electrical part that I'm repairing or cleaning, up to the light.

I often find myself attacking a problem with a light in one hand, my phone as a magnifier in the other, and wishing my nose were more dexterous.

I am very aware that my knowledge is still the bare minimum, I mean aside from research what really do I know? Right now our experiences differ and to get to know them is what is important and everyone should be aware of.

So yes beside that, your "wish" seems very reasonable and should really help utilizing stuff better thru a trustful stabilization. What comes to my mind is that vegetables seem rather large whereas my understanding of mechanical parts is rather smaller stuff. So maybe a shape altering solution?

Like you said it could be something that can hold onto stuff without damaging it of course and still having a 100% secure grip. Like holding a zuccini or mushroom down? In terms of hygiene I am not sure if things that are used to prepare food should be used for mecanical work but maybe exactly that is the challenge I have to overcome here.

Or maybe the clamp-solution could instead hold the utensils that are in use anyway like your light and phone? That way you could focus on the task itself while everything else is handled.

Thank you very much for your insight!

I like all the question you're asking and I'm not sure I have the answers. I know there are materials that are very easy to clean. I do have helping hands and things like that, but sometimes the size of the object or tools wouldn't work for those.

Suggestion, use your phones built-in flashlight as a light as you use it as a magnifier.

Sometimes, yes, but carefully directed light is often important for revealing texture and shape.
