Mother gifted ipad when diagnosed with MD. Several years later her vision has declined and ipad still sits unused for the most part. (self.Blind)

When well meaning folks provide a tool to use for visually challenged people, we don't understand the difficulty, both for the person using it, and anyone trying to help them use it. I am relatively tech immersed but not able to help my mother use the ipad. I read about this or that app but there seems to be a lack of a pathway to practical mastery of the accessibility space. Accessibility adds up to major confusion, regardless if it's Apple or Windows, and forget about android that's a mystery for the ages. Does anyone know of a site, app, or other that can help with this knowledge gap? Thanks

1. is it something SHE wants to use, or is it something YOU want her to use?
2. Contact her local service agency, this is what VRTs are literally trained to do.

Great comment! Voiceover is a bit difficult to use and you are 100% right VRT!

Does your mother have an occupational therapist who can help her learn how to use accessibility tools?

The best way to learn any device is one step at a time. It’s very easy to get overwhelmed when trying to learn how to use voiceover on an iPad or any other accessibility feature. I would start with something simple like perhaps just teaching her how to turn voiceover on and off with the triple tap of the home button or just saying hey Siri, turn on voiceover. Then I would build up from there step-by-step. There are websites and books available that teach you how to use Android and iPhone devices. iOS Access For All by Shelley Brisbane. You can use the index of the book and teach your family member one thin at a time or as fast as she can handle it.
