Social Audio Plattform - i need you opinion (self.Blind)
submitted by Jolly_Plum1949
Hey guys,
I am currently working for a Plattform/App for Audio Content only. You can publish little snippets of some audio content or stream live and publish this stream as on demand content.

I don't want to use this post as an advertise, so if you don't ask for the name of the Plattform, I won't say it (although I would appreciate it because we really need users at this point).

Currently, our Plattform is used for sport streams and especially radios for blind people. I would love the idea of having a Plattform where more people (including blind people) can have equal fun since it is note made for only visible fun.

As a not-blind person, I don't know yet what kind of contents would be nice to have. I thought about:

- cooking audio live streams (especially when the streamer is blind himself would share is way to cook)
- Sport Livestreams
- Funny snippets describing memes? (Not sure about this one though)

I am just a software developer and not a content creator, so sorry my uncreativity.

I would appreciate any ideas and suggestions from this community. Do you think a new Plattform without content based on images would give you something new or would you say, it is unnecessary due to text to voice features?

What is the site? I'll check it out, at any rate.

Okay I didn't expect that.. now I am a bit nervous because this is app is so much of a beta. And there is legit no content in it.

It's currently only an app. The website is in building. I would really be interested in how the interfaces works with you. We didn't think about usability for blind people while working on it, so don't be to harsh.

The name of the app is Mycrocast in AppStore and GooglePlay. The objective currently is sport content because it's easier to focus in one direction, though you can upload what ever you like (if you would like to)

Uff.. I am writing too many excuses. I am sorry but I am just really nervous.

I think that if you marketed it to blind people, it would be very popular. Clubhouse is extremely popular in the blind community. I've never used Vorail, but I hear that it's still quite popular. Audioboom was very popular. There are online audio-based communities. In short, there are thousands of people who'd probably love your site if they knew about it.

Thanks a lot for the encouragement! So their are a few apps that we should review to get an idea of the content, that works well with audio only.

Are there any features you would say, those are missing on your namens sites? And what do you think are the most important features, an app should have for blind people?

those services I mentioned are all slightly different and fill different needs. The most important requirement is that the website is accessible according to WCAG 2.1 (WCAG stands for the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines).

Ideas:
-Audio games.
-3D Audio
-mandatory alternative text for any sent images.
-not sure if you are aware of this, but the iPhone has a built-in feature that tells you which way you need to tilt your phone when taking a picture so that it is level. Could you do this same thing for audio? Maybe you could provide a way for users to focus on a particular sound that is being picked up by the microphone.

Thanks a lot for the ideas!
I think 3D Audio would be pretty hard to be recorded by a casual user that talks to his phone, but maybe when we create some more professional content.. maybe we could also make it possible to use to filters on your voice, so that it sound Farer away or nearer and simulate a 3D audio..

Your last point sound incredibly interesting for me as a programmer! So what you mean is, when you record something and there are different sounds recorded, we inform the user about it, so that they could move away from the sound or get closer it?

Hell.. if you just made an app that does a callout every 5s in VO telling your distance in perspective to whatever object is in focus by the camera: it would be used!
I’m honestly not sure why Apple haven’t been receptive to my suggestions about this. They have the technology. This would have been a great use of the LiDAR/camera built into the iPhone.

That actually sounds really useful, although I don't think, that this is something that would be included in my social media platform. In case I need to find a new job (realistically speaker: next year), maybe I would try to work on something like that. Pretty sure apple has it ways it makes this kinda impossible though.
Individual-Fan1639 2 points 1y ago
Makes it impossible, how?

Just a few more ideas:
-Allow to modify voice and save changes for future.
-Allow user to insert sound effects, fade in/out, auto tune.
-Allow an audio clip to be made into a NFT.
-If your platform has both audio and video, then allow an Audio Description (AD) track to be added to video.
Individual-Fan1639 3 points 1y ago
That is exactly what I am referring to! I have wrote extensively to Apple to try to get them to implement this natively and have not had any luck yet.

Something like this would be exponentially helpful. Allowing to focus on items when recording audio, video or both could be extremely accommodating for someone like myself and others here totally blind.

Clubhouse? Discord?
What can you do on your app that you cannot do on those two?
Jolly_Plum1949 [OP] 3 points 1y ago
Both of them are only Audio Chat rooms, aren't they? So it's about having space to talk to each other and discuss. With my app this could also be possible, but it's not our main idea. It's actually more like Instagram/TikTok/twitch. It's about content you want to share in public. Voice chat would only be included asynchronous as comments, but that's probably a future feature.

I would agree that it is a lot like Instagram, but the most important point is, that you have only Audio. Sharing audio only, saves the work of setting up the camera and try to look good on camera. So it is easier to get startet with audio only. And streaming and listening saves data traffic in comparison to video data. So these are the advantages compared to the most similar platforms.
I also like to think that the content is completely different. You can't tune your content with filters to look funny. So you need to find another way to be entertaining. I know radios exist and being entertaining with sound is nothing new. I want to believe that creative people on this Plattform can find new ways of entertainment when they have different constraints.

To comeback to your main question:
despite the fact that all three apps work with audio, that's all they have in common with my app. Especially discord (which I use myselfe), uses text messages, video streams and chatrooms. It's not really about content, is it? I don't know any influencer that uses discord to spread their content, but maybe I am just not correctly informed? Clubhouse on the other hand is just of no significance in my country. I don't know anything about it except the name.

This sounds very similar to the peak of vorail. I honestly really enjoyed it before they decided to make it a paid-only app and force you to use their jank built-in screen reader.
Jolly_Plum1949 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
Well than our USP in comparison to this would be that it's free. Only some advertisements during streams and in-App purchases in form a currency with which you can reward your favourite influencer.

We do not actively block any screen reader afaik, but is there anything we can/need to do to make it work (better)?
