I need to take some screenshots for school and I don't know what tool to use, what software do you use for taking screen shots? I use windows and NVDA.

I just press alt+printscreen to capture the current window. No tools or extras.

Something to caption and highlight things would be brilliant though.

Thanks, it works for a moment and bonus, is built in the system, so, no third party stuff to download and install.

Print screen by itself captures the whole screen, with Alt held it just gets the foreground window.
If you have dropbox, onedrive etc configured you can get .png or .jpg files automatically, but it's always on the clipboard ready for pasting into something.
I regularly dump screenshots into Google chat, Word documents and emails.

Hi, I'm so late to the party, but maybe you know. How do I capture a specific area of the screen? My problem is that whenever I send a screenshot, what the other person will often see is either the browser controls when that's a screenshot of a web page, or the top of the page, when they're looking for something at the bottom, but the bottom hasn't gotten captured, and stuff like that. So they usually have to take my word for it in the end.

Without being able to see the output you can be quite limited. I’d advise:
• ensuring you've maximised the window.
• that there are no panels open - history, bookmarks, etc.
• That you've moved the visual focus as close to what you want to capture as possible: by tabbing to a nearby element, or sometimes just moving the mouse.
• use screen reader OCR to check your output

• And obviously, if you're planning to use them in public, get eyes onthem - both to chec, but also to help crop and position.
