Sounds pretty cool, but a few things. 1. Is it marketed for fully blind people or partially blind people? I’m not sure how much help it is to fully blind people, because of how hard it would be to find an item in a big store. 2. Is it free? 3. How does it compare with SeeingAI?
Gerinchoo 2 points 1y ago
1) It's marketed for everyone that has a visual impairment, fully blind people can recognize products even if they are not in a market, and if they are they can be guided by other means, such as the floor, a map (with texture), the market being organized in rows (they mostly would have to walk in straight lines), etc.
2) The app will be completely free, our purpose is to help others.
3) The big difference between seeing AI is that we focus on the difficulty that exists for visually impaired people to do groceries. We designed the app to be really complete and powerful in that aspect. That's why we are also focusing in the limitations and the nutritional values of the products

The video explains *como funciona* but doesn't really explain *como funciona*. Does the app access a database of nutritional facts or have you built the database yourself? If you're accessing an existing database aren't there apps that already do that? If you built your own database how complete is it?

I know these are difficult questions, but you're asking the blind community to vote for your app. Before we decide yes or no we should understand what it does and how it works.

I understand your concerns. There are tons of databases filled with useful information, that will only need to be paired with samples (product photos) for the AI to recognize them. The database would be a mixed between samples and existing product data, and it would be online, not on your own phone.

We are aware that there are other apps, but none that is built specifically for doing groceries, that also provides a wide range of products and useful information. That's the hole we are trying to fill, making groceries an easier and faster task.

This is the info I get when I google translate the page: An application that allows you to make purchases indicating what you are buyingFray Luis.

What is this app? Something like paypal?
Gerinchoo 1 points 1y ago
The app allows you to scan products that you encounter on a market, informing its characteristics through the speaker.

The link is in Spanish, if you like it and want to vote you have to press the blue button that says "vote" or "votar" and enter some basic data, it will send an email to confirm your vote.

¡Tell me if you want to know anything else about the app!

Ah, there's an app called seeing AI from microsoft that has a feature like that, have you used it?
Gerinchoo 1 points 1y ago
Yes! We know the app exists but the big difference is that we focus on the difficulty that exists for visually impaired people to do groceries. We designed the app to be really complete and powerful in that aspect. That's why we are also focusing in the limitations and the nutritional values of the products

Interesting, are you goign to train it to recognise products? Also if there's a barcode it doesn't recognise, how will you improve the app? Will we be able to send pictures of the barcode or item to your team?

Es para Apple o Android, y que pasa si vosotros ganáis?

What research have you done with actual blind people? It sounds like you know a good bit about app development, but I think you might be lacking some understanding of what daily life is like for those of us who are blind.
Gerinchoo 1 points 1y ago
The app is in an early stage and we accept help and advice in how we could improve it. We had the idea for a contest and we would love to get to insight from people how actually have visual impairments.

I’m glad you’re welcoming feedback. That said, in the process of developing the app, did you go shopping with a blind person, or survey blind people about what we think might be helpful? I don’t mean to be offensive, but to me it seems like this was created without consulting the people it was designed for.
