Has anyone made a master list of blind accessible Xbox games? (self.Blind)
submitted by RollForParadise
I haven’t been able to play video games for almost 5 years now. I’ve just recently learned about the Xbox adaptive controller and I’m hoping to ask my occupational therapist about switches that might work with it!

My biggest concern is if there are actually any games I would be able to play on the Xbox consul itself. I’m really happy to hear about the narrator feature. And I’m hoping that since it’s been a year or two, that you lovely folks have had a chance to test and play around with a lot of the games that are available on the Xbox.

I am not interested in shooting, sports, or racing games. I do like stories, Open world, puzzle and comedic games. Some of my favourites that I was able to play in the past have included:

Minecraft, the Stanley parable, star Duvali, planet coaster, Subnautica, jazzpunk, undertale, Detroit become human, Job simulator, Rick and Morty VR, legend of Zelda, Half dead, Blackwake, life is strange, oxygen not included, and the jack box party packs.

I could keep going but these are the ones that have stuck in my mind all of these years without being able to game. Have you noticed if there are many similar games like these on the Xbox? Or is it mostly call of duty, Madden, and Grandtheft auto type of games?

Any help that you guys may have would be awesome! I can’t wait to hear all about your experiences with using the Xbox.

There's a really good resource called the $1. It allows you to look up games that have accessibility settings you prefer. On Xbox specifically, there aren't many games that are blind accessible completely, but there are a few that are playable with friends. On PC however, there are a lot of card and puzzle games that have been made accessible through the use of mods: Hearthstone, Slay the Spire, etc. Outside of puzzle game mods, there's also a mod for Hades the game, which makes it extremely accessible. Hope this helps a bit.

I know that there is more choice on computers. However I physically can’t use a keyboard or mouse, my hands are curled to the point that I basically just have two fists. That’s why I was extremely curious about the adaptive controller! My occupational therapist has extra big easy to push buttons, foot pedal switches, jumbo joysticks and many other different switches that can be plugged into the controller.

I know that the controller could somehow be used on a computer, but again I can’t use a keyboard or mouse so even getting the game open would be a challenge. I’ve heard of games like the veil, have you tried out that?

The Vale: Shadow of the Crown is great! It's fully blind accessible and the controls are reasonably simple. Definitely start there.

Microsoft has their own database of accessibility features coming up, so there will be lots of information on that.

Oh the Microsoft database thing sounds interesting, how can I check it out?

It's still in the works, as far as I know, but the one already linked is very good and there's also Can I Play That.

Yes I have tried the Veil and it is a good audio game for someone new to blind gaming. As far as the computer, have you tried using voice controled software like Dragon?

You may want to consider joining Xbox game pass ultimate. For 15 bucks a month you can download and play games in that library. The library is very large and is always growing. You can even pre-load games that have not been released yet. Forza horizon five will be coming out on November 9. Here is a video of SightlessKombat playing the game that will be released. It has a lot of accessibility for blind people or visually impaired people to drive a vehicle.

I know games like gears five, sea of thieves, Minecraft, have menu narration. I do like to download games and test them for accessibility myself and not have to worry about spending $60 on a game that I cannot play!
It was mentioned here earlier and I would also like to recommend the veil shadow of the crown. It is an audio based game the blind and visually impaired people can play! It is very good!
If anybody would like to add me on Xbox my gamer tag is zatoichi4205338
And finally I would like to add that also with the Xbox game pass ultimate subscription you can play games on your Windows PC or through the new Xbox cloud gaming service which is launching. All you need for that is just a web browser and a controller.
Hope this helps a little bit.
Happy gaming :-)

Adding to your last point, I've played Halo 5 on a Mac with a PS4 controller. What a world we live in.

I just looked it up and the Xbox accessible controllers can connect to computers running Windows 10 or 11 through a USB attachment.

does anybody have an opinion on number one the best console for blind people and number two is there a difference between the strictly online versions or the systems with a tray? Other than the fact that you buy physical games?
