Is it odd or a normal thing to do? I joke mine is called Seymour as it allows me to "see more".

Someone in my high school class named her cane Rodney McCain. She was a gem of a person!

We have an old fiberglass rain shine cane nicknamed the "poop cane" which is kept outside by the back door of the house that visitors can use to take their dogs out to relieve or to go smoke, etc. The idea being that it is better if "poop cane" is what encounters any dog poop as it is not coming back in the house unlike a personal cane or shoes.
Other than that, I have only heard people refer to canes as "Bessie" or some other old fashioned name when joking about how old their cane is, but I've never known anyone who had chosen a persistent non-joke name for their cane.

Seymour? That's adorable!
I call mine "the fat one" and "the thin one."
I like the thin one. It's the one I use the most. It's a little bit longer and much lighter, plus it has more sections so it folds into a smaller bundle. Great for indoor use.
The fat one is stronger and has a much bigger roller ball at the tip. It's the one I use for hiking.

I don't, and I don't know anyone else who does.

I want to now

Yes, maybe not the most original but I named mine Candy (cane). After over a decade of service though (and a small incident when hiking) I retired Candy and am now with Candy 2.

I named mine “Turbo”, because like a turbo on a car, he enhances my performance. My second cane I named Bi turbo, Like twin turbos I found that by naming my cane it gave it it’s own personality making it easier for people to both except and respect the importance of my cane. After all these years everyone calls Turbo by name and will even ask me,”Hey where’s Turbo?” if I leave him behind.

I like your style. In our home, it's just called the blind stick.

I called my first cane Cane-O-Blindo. I was 6 and had very unimaginative classmates.

I’m waiting for my first cane to arrive and have settled on “Birtha” not Bertha the name, I mean “birth a baby” birth + a.
And I’m going to ask my husband to make it a light saber for Halloween after the tip breaks.

No, why would I?

The fact that nobody has thought of Michael Cane is frankly baffling

A long long time ago I read a blog by a Canadian woman who called her cane "Thwack" because you would necessarily use it to get the attention of other pedestrians who weren't looking where they were going and for bus drivers who didn't call out her stop.
I know it sounds aggressive but I think of it as being assertive.
I've tried to find the blog again but I've not succeeded despite my best efforts.

My fiances cane is called Glenn after the former wrestler Glenn Jacobs whose in ring name was Kane.

I've not named my cant, but I have a friend who gave her cane a name.
She decided to give her cane a name because it gave her back the freedom she lost when she went legally blind.
It would be fun to find out if it's more common to give your cane a name if you've been sighted before, compared to if you've been legally blind from birth like I've been.
And for those who're curious, she gave her name the name Kape Keppinen. Kape is usually a nickname for Kasper in Finland.
