I can no longer see the items on the shelves. Are there lists available or store layouts (in grocery stores I can't read the overhead products lists in each aisle). It's so hard to remember and I miss browsing.

Going with family, friends, shop assistant service if i look for specific things. But yes shopping is much less exciting when I lost a lot of my vision and for sure I miss it lot of price drops and opportunities to buy my lot of things. I did O&M in shops bur since then they often changed layouts to make shops more interesting. Before i go shopping I download Shop app try to see what items the Shop is selling sometimes the app is accessible and has search options and shopping list option which later helps. 3rd party apps are often helpful like Bing Shopping List.
As long battery allows it i use OrCam (it has great offline text recognition and point with finger to recognize if i want anything specific at distance) or EnvisionGlasses (better battery life, Video calling trusted contact for remote help, objects text and surroundings recognition but it has no point with finger gesture yet it has instant text recognition so when I browse through the items or walk it's it reads all it sees instantly for me very quick it's almost like reading) i find those better than using apps because I have hands free a don't have to hold my phone and worry it will fall sown and break

Another worry is, in order to use the one tiny part of my ARMD eye that works, I have to bring the item up and twist it, super close, someone will think I am spreading COVID by breathing that close to the item (or vice versa).
Today I went grocery shopping alone and it took over two hours to get 7 items (because, as you say, they rearrange everything or) I have to take and look at the tinyvprint of each item. Do any of you do the apps where you give a list, they pick up and bag the items and notify you when to pick it up?
I never liked shopping and now I really don't like it.

I agree with you about the covid concern. I don't actually think that it's a concern but in some countries it seems to be taken to the extreme.
When clothing shopping for instance on a trip to Canada I was told off for touching the merchandise. It seems that several stores I visited had a policy of if you touch it you should expect to buy it.
I am touching the items as a way to understand what they are.
For grocery stores drugstores et cetera if I know the store and the layout I can generally find what I am looking for. Almost every Rossmann store for example for example has the same layout but Müller does not so I have to hunt a little bit more or ask for help or use an app.

I'm usually with a friend or family member just by coincidence, but you can go to the service desk and ask for someone to go around with you, or you can take them a list and they will get your things for you.

I just do walmart delivery. Or I call ahead to the store and, if it's only a couple of items, ask them to get them to the counter so I can take an uber, check out and go. There's fewer customer service people being hired overall, even pre rona, I've noticed, so counting on help being available once you get there is a losing proposition.

Have you tried the be my eyes app? You call a volunteer on the app who will describe what you are showing them, I know it's not the same as browsing.

No, I'll have to look up all these apps.

There is an app in the Google play store called lookout which is a game changer. It reads food labels, mail, money, and text like a sign. Maybe this can help. I use it to read my mail and medicine labels.

I generally ask for assistance & the store will find an employee to assist with my shopping. I just tell them what I need & they walk around the store with me. It definitely makes shopping quicker & essentially serves as a break for the employee.

what I do, is this; I find the courtesy counter, and then I ask for a shoppers assistant; if I know what I am looking for, I can tell them what I am wanting to find. Also, I will make a list either on my smart phone, or have someone help me write out a list, that I can take with me and hand to the shoppers assistant as we go through that way, they can help me find what I am looking for; as for dates on products, such as milk for expiration dates I asked him, what they are so I can choose, what would be the best date for the product so it does not get spoiled.
