How to answer BE My Eyes app if bilingual? (self.Blind)
submitted by throwaaaaawaaaayyyyy
I’m sighted and bilingual, and I listed both languages as options for receiving calls from people in search of volunteers. I’m wondering how I know which language to use to answer the call. Does the app share the user’s preferred language? Or do I just have to try both? I just want the experience to be as straightforward as possible. Thanks for any advice!

how I have always done it, answering the phone and not knowing which of the two languages the person speaks, just use both. for example, In Canada, its French and English, and I have always done "Hello, Bonjour", and then that lets the user determine which language is best to communicate in.

Nice! Just like in Quebec

Start with English and if they don't speak English, or their English is bad, speak the other language.

That’s a good call, my guess is more users of this app are English speaking than french.

Ya generally speaking everyone speaks at least a little English. I work/live in an area with a lot of different languages and it's usually English by default until I can determine if it'd be better to use another one, like Spanish for example.

The app should be informing you which language the blind individual prefers

Here in Canada, I hear "Hello bonjour, welcome to ..." a lot when calling companies. That addresses the majority of people (English speakers) but that extra bonjour lets people know English isn't the only option.
