Has anyone else had this happen. You are walking somewhere to do something and run into someone. And that person says what are you blind or what can't you see. I'm sure you've experienced a similar scenario. One time it happened to be someone in a wheelchair and when they asked me I decided to say what can't you walk LOL it just came out. Going blind has taught me how rude the average American really is.

Lol. When I was traveling to Maine I was walking into a fast food restaurant. A guy in a business suit with glasses runs into me Knocking everything out of my hands onto the ground. I immediately start picking stuff up and he walks by saying watch where you're going. Another phrase a blind person hates to hear.

When I was back in high school I was slowly descending the stairs. A guy started running up the stairs, turned the corner and collided with me. 1 sited conversation went something like this:
"Are you blind? Look in front of you" "oh my god brother I'm so sorry I'm really sorry oh my god"
Seemed like he was going to keep going so I just said no problem and walked off. Funny part was this incident had nothing to do with being blind - he was dashing up the stairs and would've hit anyone that happened to be around the corner lol

Something similar happenned to me lol, I was struggling to get in line for a thing at UK and some staff member was like "are you blind or what just get in line?", I just showed my white cane and asked "where’s the line?" guy gave me the whole "i’m so sorry" spill and bought me a coffee. Lol can’t complain, I got coffee and an anecdote out of it. And I didn’t queue!

Walking in Manhattan once prior to getting my first cane and O & M trainin, ran into a guy with a handcart full of paper boxes. “What are you blind! I’m walking here!”
”Yes, I am. Sorry.”
”No cane, no dog you ain’t blind!“
I kept walking, wasn’t worth the time or effort, but he guy made me laugh.

them: what are you blind or something? Me: yes, indeed I am Them:… Squeaks and begins to talk in tongues
Or
Them: Watch where you’re going. Me: sorry I can’t, what’s your excuse? Them: Angerly walks away
Now, using a white cane while in a wheelchair… That causes much confusion indeed

Most if not all of the time this happens, people realize pretty quickly I actually AM blind, which leads to an almost hilarious amount of apologizing and public groveling. Phrases like "watch where you're going" aren't as common here; that phrase is usually phrased as a question here which you can respond to rather deadpan. "Can't you watch where you're going?" "no, actually..."
