Has anyone had bilateral rectus surgery for eye alignment? Did it solve your diplopia, or just cosmic? (self.Blind)
submitted by Trick-Regret-493
I have to go under for the surgery..I'm not looking for medical advice, just personal experience.

Also I have a report from my visit but it has so much medical jargon I can not make sense of it. If you think you can help me understand my report y comment if I can DM you.

Thanks

I had bilateral realignment surgery in 1989. It was mostly successful, however, I still have issues with alignment when I'm very tired, and I still need prisms in the lenses of my glasses to keep my eyes aligned throughout the day. Much better than it was, but definitely not perfect.

Thanks for the input. Did it help with the double vision? My right eye is out and up about 15*

It definitely corrected the double vision. The doctor said that it saved my sight in the weaker eye. I still have some issues with double vision when I'm very tired, or when I've been reading for a while. But it's a major improvement over what it was prior to the surgery.

That is very encouraging thank you. How long do they put you on there for? Does it hurt? I'm nervous lol..

It was so long ago, that I don't remember a lot of the details. The one thing that stands out to me is that they didn't trim the strings from the stitches until after I had woken up from the surgery. They wanted to make sure everything was aligned correctly before they did that. I just remember being very groggy from surgery and seeing the scissors coming towards my eyes to cut the strings and being a bit freaked out. That was really the only uncomfortable part of it for me. You could see the stitches in my eyes for a few weeks after the surgery, but it wasn't as uncomfortable as I thought it would be.

I dont know if you're still wondering , but I had the surgery not too long ago and I'm having another soon, it didn't hurt for me although the sight of it itself is scary, I find the anesthetics don't work too well but maybe that was just my personal experience
