What is Dot 4 followed by Dot 3, 4, 6. (self.Blind)
submitted by jcbbjjttt
Hello,

I am learning to read braille and every now and again I come across a conjunction that I can't seem to find a reference for.

For example, I bought a Braille Me device and the instructions for using Braille Back has the following:

"Pan left: Right-1
Pan right: Right-2
Next item: Space ?? Dot 4.
Previous item: Space ?? Dot 1."

Where the 2 question marks in the quote is something I cannot decipher. The two cells are Dot 3 followed by Dot 3, 4, 6.

First, what is this symbol?
Second, is there a good resource for looking up symbols? I have a reference sheet but can't find that specific symbol.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like ebae braille you may have to switch the settings to UEB. There should be way to do that in the instructions for the device.

It does sound indeed like a pre-UEB plus sign. But I’m not sure if you meant dot three or dot four in the first position, your title says four, but your body says three. In UEB, I believe the plus sign would be dot 5, 2-3-5.

Are you sure you're correct? There isn't anything for those dots with a dot 4 in front of it. It could possibly be a dot 5?

It is validating to know other people don't recognize it.

Unless I am incorrect on how to refer to the specific dots, that is correct. I thought it may have been a typo at first. However, it appears multiple times when the manual talks about performing key operations.

It seems to be what this manual uses as a plus sign. Perhaps it isn't standard ueb?

It’s a + sign

Thanks for the information.

Is this a non-standard form of a plus sign? Perhaps this manual is not in ueb?

No, that’s not the UEB +. It’s the + for the system used before UEB don’t remember what it’s called

It doesn't mean anything I don't think.

It may be computer Braille.

I believe that is UEB plus, yes.
