iPhone 13 or Google pixel 6 (self.Blind)
submitted by BlindWizard
So I currently have an iPhone 7 Plus. And I am going to need to upgrade next month. I am debating between iPhone 13 or Google pixel six.

I would like to get your thoughts and opinions as far as accessibility goes and which would be better.

Do you use vision?

Always Android.

I have some usable vision now and can read my phone to a degree. But I will eventually be losing the remaining eye and I wanted to upgrade to a phone that would accommodate that as efficiently and painlessly as possible.

Impossible to be of use without more data. Your accessible is almost certainly different to mine.

I rely on VoiceOver, Seeing AI, Voice Dream reader, my calendar, dystopia for reddit, NVDA remote, Draftsapp, Rec-up and a few iOS-only smart home apps. I'm not particularly invested in Apple but iPhone came first after my button phone and I've yet to see anyone on Android live in my app sphere.

I’m looking for just in general is android more accessible than iPhone and I’m looking to get opinions for that. I have some usable vision left but it was made clear to me with my last appointment they have to remove my remaining eye somewhere down the road it depends on if the cataract or the retina take the eye first. So I’m wanting to get the best option I can and start using voiceover full-time because it’s already a strain to use my phone usually as it is for more than 30 to 45 seconds at a time 😂

Well, VO got there first in terms of the blind market. Android may well be catching up with its accessibility of course.

Personally I'd say, if you already have some VO familiarity, stay with it. why make the change? But cost or any number of factors might cut in too. I'm sure some Droidees will chip in here. :)

Well as no one chimed in I will have to, I agree, stick with what you already know, both are good, do not think much is really that different at this point, only real reason to go with one over the other would be app availability.

How does NDVA remote work
retrolental_morose 0 points 1y ago
it allows remote control of a Windows system running NVDA using a Bluetooth keyboard through iOS.

Stick to the iPhone. I just upgraded from an 8 to an SE 2 which has the same internals as an iPhone 11. Personally, I just strongly prefer TouchID over FaceID since it's more convenient to use since I don't look at my phone to use it. VoiceOver is still lightyears ahead of TalkBack in terms of utility, features, and integration, so while Android has done some catching up, it's still nowhere near the speed and usefulness of VO. iOS apps are updated faster, you have sites like applevis.com where we actively rate and review iOS and MacOS apps for accessibility and keep track of currently open a11y bugs and fixes in the latest releases, and once you try SoundScape with head tracking audio with AirPods Pro, you will never want to think about Android again. :)
