How I put a rolling ball on my NFB cane (i.redd.it)

The NFB canes are so light and bendy that I can’t imagine a heavy, bulky rolling ball tip would work well.

So far so good, the ball doesn’t feel that heavy. Walked almost 10,000 steps with it today.

Oh wow! I hope it holds up. I love my NFB cane.

I like mine too, except when I want to do constant contact.

The picture is the end of a NFB slender white fiberglass rigid cane with a red Ambutech rolling ball tip held on with duct tape.

Since no one knew if the slip-on rolling ball tip would fit the NFB cane, I bought one.

It doesn’t. The cane is too slender.

Duct tape is my friend. I wrapped the cane in few layers of tape until I had to use some force to slip it into the tip, then wrapped it with a little more tape.

Smart.

Well it worked. It took me 38 days to wear the ball down. Replaced it today.

Why just not buy a new cane? I can get a folding cane with a tip that fits correctly for around $50.

Because I have not had my first O&M session and I’m not 100% sure of what size to buy. Buying the wrong size cane sounds like an expensive lesson.
BenandGracie 1 points 1y ago
That is a valid reason. Although, be careful using that with out any training.

I had one lesson over 30 years ago with a borrowed cane and a blindfold. And watched a bunch of YouTube videos by O&M instructors to hold me over.
