If I get a white cane, its all white except the bottom folding section (5 sections) is pink hi-lite, and the tip of the rolling ball is pink, and the golf handle is pink, will I still be protected by white cane law in the US? Its still mostly white, the only parts that are pink are the parts that would normally be red.

I have a pink hi lite from ambutech! As far as im aware nobody has treated it any different from a solid white except asking me where i got it.
One word of advice though, it didnt come with any reflective bits so i bought some reflective tape online and added it myself

Yes thats my plan too; I already have some tape due to using it for my ptsd service dog's harness.

I believe so. I ordered mine almost the same, all white with a pink bottom shaft but I chose to keep my handle black. I decided to keep the cane mostly white so it would be clear what’s it’s for and hopefully protect me.

Actually I'm not fully sure which color my handle is. Might be black. I can't remember. Oh well.

If you chose the HiLite option your grip will be pink if that’s the chosen color. I had to email them to change it when I decided I wanted it black instead.

Makes sense then yeah my handle is pink

Just want to be clear that the bottom shaft on mine is pink. The HiLite option only changes the grip handle and tip color I believe. When I changed my grip back to black my tip was also changed back to the standard white. But I ordered an extra large roller ball in pink. It’s become my favorite cane. Hope you enjoy it!

I was recently on a trip in Vancouver, WA and was with my family at a restaurant. I have an Ambutech cane that has a blue lower section, NFB tip, and handle. My brother took me to the restroom and got into a conversation with a woman near the door who was curious about the blue color. She was wondering if it meant if I was "extra" blind or had some other additional disability when in fact I have it blue since it was the closest color I could get for my favorite sports team, the San Jose Sharks.
So while the colors are fun and while you will be protected under the white cane laws since the majority of the cane is still white, be prepared to totally confuse people when out and about.

You should be okay, but I would say the problem with changing the color might throw some people off. People might think the pink meant something different and not stop when you are crossing a street.

They already don't lol I can't have a walk sign with a service dog and almost get hit because people speed through a crosswalk here when I have a walk and they have a red light
BenandGracie3 points1y ago
That happens sometimes. It also makes it hard to read traffic patterns when people do that.
Bsmith0799 [OP]2 points1y ago
Its a regular thing in my town it happens almost daily.
BenandGracie2 points1y ago
Wow. Daily? I have it happen every once in a while. Everyday is a lot.

I go through a cane about every six months so I’ve never been much of a fan of getting the full custom treatment. I think the fact that it’s mostly white will keep you in good standings in most states. I’m also a fan of non-folding cans but that’s always a persons individual preference

My whole cane is purple and I've never had a problem. Well the grip and tip is blue. It's still reflective. When I was hit by a car after I got (third time), the police didn't say anything about it either.

Slightly off topic, can I cover my cane in cool stickers? I'm in New York.
