I don't have any input for you on this. I'm sorry. I can say that I understand your fear and grief. I have almost no vision, maybe strong light, in my left eye and I take a crap ton of eye drops to keep it from giving me pain. I wish you well.

I strongly recommend you seek out psychological help. It's a difficult process. I asked this question in another platform, and I had several conversations with people that went through the process. They passed on the recommendation to get help from a psychologist.

I had both my eyes removed. I had one removed in 2001 and the other in 2002. I have been totally blind my entire life, so removing them didn’t bother me because I didn’t have any vision to lose. I have no regrets.

I had a detached retina in my mostly blind eye that was not repaired. After years of pain and a wonky looking eye, I finally took the step to have it removed. I scheduled surgery, then cancelled from nerves, but then went through with it a year later. The first thing I felt after waking up was... relief! The pain I had been dealing with was noticeably absent. The recovery wasn't terrible. I had a really good ocularist in NY and I was happy with my final prosthetic eye. Most people (including eye docs) can't tell right away that it's fake. I'm happy to answer any other questions you may have.

I had my right eye removed in 2010 due to glaucoma, was born with ROP stage 5 so total retinal detachment still partially fixed with scleral buckle surgery and Cryo, so had some light perception in the right eye until a year or two before I had the right eye removed due to high pressure from glaucoma.

I had both my eyes removed via the same technique, 10 years apart from each other. In 2004, I was hit in the face with a door and ruptured my left eye. They tried to surgically repair it, but were unsuccessful and I had a lot of pain. Maybe a week or so after the initial accident and surgery, I chose to remove that eye. 10 years later, my right eye was very bulgy, sore, and itchy. I had been blind in that one for about six years. I removed that I at that point. Recovery for both was smooth, but a bit long/tedious. I have had a handful of maintenance surgeries to my left eye due to a thinning sclera. I don’t think I experienced any of the grief/psychological difficulties with these surgeries, so I’m not sure if I can be of some help.
