Can an injury to your eye suddenly cause blindness? (self.Blind)
submitted by missunlucky88
I was wondering if someone could get permanently blind from an injury to eye. Or is it just temporary?

Louis Braille was perminently blinded I believe. But absolutely, fatal trauma of almost any sort can have life-changing consequences

Yes correct. He was playing with some tools in his dad's workshop when he was like 3 or 4, and poked himself in the eye with one. The damage caused him to go blind in that eye, but the infection quickly spread to his other eye.

Of course it's possible.

Some injuries can cause temporary issues, some can cause permanent ones, some can be mostly harmless, but put you at a higher risk for things like retina detachment, etc.

It's all a spectrum. You damage any part of the body badly enough and it will stop working.

Yes I got shot in the eyeball with a air soft gun and have about 75% loss of vision I can see light shadows and outlines it’s really dark and blurry

If someone receives an impact that makes them go blind, they are most likely going to the hospital as soon as possible. I don't think that anyone would just wait at home, hoping for the vision to come back.

A whack to the head like from a sports ball or car accident can cause a detached retina which can result in permanent blindness if not operated on emergently.
