Text to speech reader that highlights one word at a time? (self.Blind)
submitted by Razirra
Ever since a brain injury years ago I’ve had trouble reading and also processing audio. I found a textbook reader called bookshelf that highlights words as it reads them aloud. This only works for the rented textbooks though. I need to have pdfs read this way too on my phone. The on my phone bit and the word by word bit are both essential. Can’t be sentence by sentence. Anyone know an app?

Voice Dream Reader does this, and is a fantastic app all around (especially on ios.) Lots of visual and audio fine-tuning available.

If you have Bookshare, you can import books from bookshare into the app. But it also works with generic epubs and PDFs.

I think you may be able to throw these into the easy reader app. Or dolphin reader. It’ll let you do bookshare which will let you pull textbooks that you wouldn’t even need to rent because of how it works. But. You can set it up to highlight word by word as it reads and turn off the sentence highlighter or turn the sentence highlighter the color of the background so only the word highlighter is visible.

I think you can do PDFs too.
