App to read back digits as they are being dialed? (self.Blind)
submitted by newbie_01
Looking to help my dad, who has serious vision impairments.
Is there an app that reads each digit when dialing a number on am android phone?

Much appreciated

I'm not sure if talkback on android would do this as I don't own an android phone. I know the iPhone will do this when Voiceover is turned on though.

Thanks. I tried turning Talkback on on my phone, and couldn't get the functionality I was looking for. What I got was "click once to read, click twice to activate". My ideal app would be "click once to read AND activate".

The issue with click once to read AND activate is trying to locate a button (for example, the G on the keyboard). As you search around, it would activate everything touched.

What phone/version of Android does he use? Not sure if Touch and Hold would work, but will depend on the model.

I'll be getting the phone too. Whatever works. I'd like this feature just on the dialing keypad, not on the overall phone interface.
He tried the doble click feature and found it more annoying than useful.

Not sure if this is what you’re looking for, but try going to accessibility > talkback > talkback settings > advanced settings > typing preference, and click on “hold finger to select key, then lift” if he doesn’t like the double tap setting. Can deactivate talkback at any time by just holding both volume rockers simultaneously. Not sure if it is the same for all androids, but I’m using the Samsung Galaxy s21, FYI.

I use TalkBack and it indeed reads the dialing buttons.

Without training the phone will be hell. Try the Blind Shell 2 phone, he shall have a better experience.

I agree in this case the shell phone would really help.
