I have had band keratopathy on both of my eyes for a few years now.

The eye which has it more severe already had no light perception, so I can’t speak to how it affected the vision of that eye. I did have surgery to have it removed because we thought it was contributing to some issues in my other eye. I was sedated for the procedure because I was younger then, but the recovery was very simple and painless.

I also have it on my seeing eye which has affected my vision a little bit just making things a bit blurrier, but not a lot as I don’t have a lot of it on that eye.

I hope that was helpful and I’m happy to answer any more questions if you have any.

Thank you so much, yeah I was just looking for someone who knows what it is. Do you find that it had days where it's super irritating? (My eyes get watery and stingy & can't open eye with BK) But other days it's fine?

Unfortunately it’s been a few years so I’m really not sure. :(

From what I understand from my Eye Phys class. . .
Band Keratopathy.
“Swiss cheese” band across the eye.
Caused from change in tonacity of tears, pH or endothelial functionings.
Treatment is Corneal debridement., meaning basis scrubby across the cornea to remove the deposits. Removal of this debris on cornea.
Overall reduction in vision, causing blur.

My band grew back right after being removed and it seems to get very uncomfortable/big... then it'll almost dull down for a couple weeks and the process repeats. My ophthalmologist isn't removing it anymore, just working with eye drops. Is this even normal?

I’m not a doctor, but yes it is. They’re probably trying to restore your pH?

Just confuses me to no end lol. I had BK as a little kid, but it went away and it wasn't visible. Now it's a visible white patch and scarily irritating at times 😅

Have you asked the ophthalmologis? I’d assume they’re attempting to restore pH, but perhaps there are other issues. Maybe ask about debridement?
