A new home theater system (self.Blind)
submitted by SightlessBastard
Hello everyone,
Recently, my home theater system broke. Unfortunately, it is pretty old, so I can’t find spare parts for it anymore. It probably wouldn’t be worth fixing anyway. So here’s my question.
Do you guys know of a home theater system, that is accessible? I know, I can’t expect anything with a screen reader or something. But do you maybe know a system, that I can set up and control through an app or something like that?

I just got a LG C1 OLED and Sonos soundbar with rears and a sub. The television has a decent enough screen reader, and the audio equipment is easily controlled through a voiceover compatible app.

It’s not a projector set up, but we didn’t really have the space for a 100+ inch screen, so the 83 inch television works just fine for us.

We’re planning to add at least one more subwoofer in the near future.

Thanks for your answer.
Sonos was actually my first thought. But my biggest problem with their sound bars is, that they only have one HDMI-port. I know there are HDMI-hubs. But the only compatible one that I found, has only three HDMI ports. I would at least need four. It’s really a shame. I know the Sonos app is completely accessible. But, unfortunately, the system doesn’t seem to be right for me.

Could I ask what you’re going to need all of those ports for? I have a possible idea that might work for you.

I have an Nvidia shield, a satellite receiver, which I occasionally still need, A fire TV and a Blu-ray player. Although I could probably get rid of the Blu-ray player, since I ripped my Blurays into video files anyway. So I could downsize it to three ports.

All of those plugged into the television, correct?

Just plug the sound bar into the TV, and anything that would try to play audio through the TV, would pass it to the sound bar.

Basically, turn your television into the hub.

If we ever set up our theater to use more devices, that’s what we would do.

Hello, we had good success setting up a samsung soundbar, and then using a amazon fire stick to link the two together so that my wife can control it using the voice commands on the remote, or the accessability screen reader that amazon has as an option on the firestick. Have used two different samsung soundbars and the quality is really good.

I would imagine it would be similarly as easy to hook up a more advanced surround sound system as long as it has bluetooth but dont have much experience with those :)

Thanks for your answer.
Can you only hook up Bluetooth speakers to a Samsung sound bar, or with that also work with Wi-Fi speakers? Also, do you know, how many HDMI ports your sound bar has?
