Paid survey opportunity from Google (self.Blind)
submitted by OldManOnFire
Good morning everyone,

I know most of us come here for the company, the camaraderie, the support, and to share the blind experience with one another. We're not here to answer questions. I get it. r/Blind is our pillow fort or our tree house, it's where we vent and rant and commiserate sometimes with people going through the same things we're going through. We protect our pillow fort. It's ours. We built this tree house for ourselves, not for the entire Reddit neighborhood.

As a moderator one of my jobs is to stand at the entrance of this pillow fort and politely turn away the students who come with their surveys so they can get an A in civics class. I don't have anything against these students and I always take their surveys personally to help them out, but if we allowed every survey request on r/Blind there wouldn't be much other content. Most of the requests we get we decline because most of the members of this sub don't come here to answer questions from outsiders.

However, the mod team got a request to put up a survey this morning that I'm going to approve. It's compensated so you can earn some money, it's from Google, and our answers might lead to real, tangible improvements and not just a higher grade in a high school class somewhere in Nebraska.

You, dear readers, are welcome to ignore this and go back to being awesome. I'm simply posting the blurb, not recommending it. But with the Holidays coming up I wanted everyone who could use a bit more cash to know this opportunity is available.

That's it from me, the rest of this post is copy paste from Katie at Google

Google would like your help to shape the future of Google's products! Google is looking for people who have low vision to participate in a user study to learn more about how you use technology. This study will help the Google team better understand your needs in order to incorporate them into future product development and updates.

Dates: Dec 8th - Dec 15th Time: 90 minutes Location: online, video call with a researcher Thanks: $100 USD/$125 CAD gift code To qualify: You must live in the US or CAD and be over the age of 18 (this is due to legal approval for this particular study, I apologize to those who do not qualify, we still respect and value your opinion and will be reaching out in other instances)

If you’re interested in participating, please let us know by filling out this short form: $1. Note that completing this form is not the interview itself. Once we receive your form, we will reach out to you to schedule a session if you qualify.

Please feel free to pass this onto anyone you think might be interested. Thank you! Katie Wainwright, User Experience Researcher

And will this one claim to pay us and then never do like the last one I did?
rumster 4 points 1y ago
Do you have the name of which one didn't pay you? I want to make sure the schools and the contact that made submissions is perm banned.

I can give you screenshots of the email correspondence. The study was in October. I keep getting excuse after excuse as to why it hasn't happened.

I was assured that the fact that the person had a .edu email meant they were legit. I was thinking "technically that just means you GO to college not that your college is endorsing your study"

First they claimed the delay was that they were getting too many people that weren't even blind/low vision, then the school was getting irritated that they were asking for payouts when only a few interviews happened that week.

Then they sent out a email claiming we would be paid soon. That was several weeks ago. I followed up 2 weeks ago asking what happened. 5 days ago they said they'd be asking today where the money is. No response since.

Can you do me a favor and PM me any information you have so I can follow up on it. I will follow up with you on my findings after.

I'm not super tech savvy and it would be a LOT of screenshots

Yes. It would be easier to just forward you emails, is there any way you could let me do that?

First off, shoot! I missed it. ): Secondly, was it only for low vision? Lastly, I am quite happy to answer people’s questions and am sort of sad more of them don’t get through here. How else is our world going to get understanding and perspective? I sure hope not from the unrealistic caricatures media puts out there.

Is there maybe a way to have a place for them on here that doesn’t flood the entire sub, like one of those thread things that stays at the top or something?

I've read the post but I'm not finding the survay link. Could you please share the link on a reply.

$1

Filling out this form is how you get scheduled for the 90 minute Zoom interview. Completing the interview is how you get the $100. I want to make it clear that you don't get paid just for filling out the form. I should have made that a little more clear in the original post.
