Using Twitter for professional networking and other job related activities (self.Blind)
submitted by napoleon88
Hi all, I am currently preparing a talk to be given tomorrow regarding how blind professionals use Twitter as part of their work. so, to that end, I would welcome any thoughts from anyone who has use, or who is thinking about using, Twitter for this purpose. How do you use it in your professional life? Has it helped you connect with other like-minded professionals in the job world? What success have you had? From an accessibility perspective, what methods do you prefer to interface with Twitter? Are there any tips you would have for university students, or young professionals, looking to harness this amazing social network for professional reasons? are there any things you definitely should not do on Twitter? If you are a recruiter, or in a position where you have to interview people, would you look at their Twitter before the interview? Are there any things that would disqualify them? Some of these questions are not blindness specific, but others are. Any thoughts gratefully received

You are giving the talk, and you don't know the answers to those questions. That doesn't make you look professional at all.

You are aware that I used the phrase "I would welcome any thoughts", right? Its called seeking a broader base from which to draw for such a presentation.

I was interested in a field of work, so I followed some professionals who did the job I wanted. They posted related stuff on Twitter which was helpful. In following someone, I realized what I had to do to achieve my goal. I networked with them through direct messages and received some guidance. Linked In is great too.
