Hi all,

I'm a Masters student at the University of Bristol, studying Anthropology with Innovation.

My team and I are currently working on a project concerning leisure experiences for the visually impaired, specifically in terms of entertainment. We would love to gain some insight from the members of this group who are partially sighted - We'd be grateful if you could answer the following 3 questions!

1. What is your favourite leisure activity?
2. What is the biggest challenge you face when performing leisure activities?
3. Are there any leisure activities you would like to partake in but cannot due to a lack of accessibility?

Thanks!

Hello.

1. My favorite leisure activity would have to be playing video games. A close second is hiking.

2. I would say the most difficult part about playing video games is reading text on the screen or button cues. For instance, when I play a sports game like UFC or NBA 2k there are some activities that require you to quickly press a button that pops up. I honestly don’t have a fix for this issue so I usually just don’t bother with those activities. They don’t ruin the experience of the game.

3. I can’t think of any activities off the top of my head that I can’t participate in because of a lack in accessibility. There are some instances where I participate in something and realize it would be much more enjoyable with accommodations. For example, being at a sporting event/ concert is fun for me because of the atmosphere but it would be nice to have a closer seat and/or audio description of what’s going on. I know AD is available for some live events like theater performances but I have not heard of any options for NBA games or concerts.

I hope that my answers make sense and that they will be able to help you with your project.

Hello. I am not visually impaired but my step-daughter is. I can answer your questions from my perspective, if you think it would be helpful?

Shouldn’t that be her prospective?
