Forever searching for toys/games for my blind sister(self.Blind)
submitted by lifelikelifer
I'm looking for games/toys for my blind sister. She's 30, but autistic, pretty much a teenager. Every year I spend hours looking for toys and games for her that are audio based but it's getting harder every year. She likes work out/yoga stuff, music, games that tell you what to do, anything audio descriptive. Any clever suggestions?
She already has: -Amazon echo with every game/music/workout skill I could find -pretty much every bop-it version ever created -shock potato -hot potato -most Braille board/card games
Thanks!

If you have an iOS device, she might enjoy some of the games from Blindfold Games like Blindfold Hopper, Blindfold Bowling, Blindfold Birdsongs, Blindfold Simon and Blindfold Air Hockey.

Here’s a list of electronic talking games she may find interesting. Most of them are available on Amazon, or eBay.
Say What: a game in which the player must unscramble popular phrases by re-arranging the order of the words. The game consists of 5 plastic balls on a stand, and each ball is associated with a certain portion of the phrase. You swap the balls around to unscramble the phrases. Freeze up: A talking word game, similar to Scattergories, in which you name things starting with certain letters. It’s best played with multiple people. GeoSafari World: A geography trivia game with multiple choice questions about countries, capitals, etc. Brain Warp: A bop-it-esque reaction game, resembling a ball with six protrusions on it, in which the player must turn the ball to the right one as quickly as possible. The game may require a little bit of adaptation, since the protrusions have numbers and colors on them, but you can place differently shaped stickers or Braille labels on them to identify them. Torx, (possibly also spelled Torks): a bop-it-style game featuring a hinged stick that the player must bend into various shapes when prompted. Turbo twist: a line of educational toys designed to teach math, science, reading comprehension, etc. They’re not quite reaction-based but are a lot of fun to play nonetheless. NuJam Guitar: Bop-it, but guitar-shaped, with directions to strumb, twist, and manipulate the guitar in various ways. Fast Fingers:an electronic talking reaction game, featuring track-balls, levers, and knobs that must be pressed as quickly as possible when prompted. Circuit Breaker: A bop-it-esque game, but with different styles of music that play, and touch sensors that a player must touch in the correct combination. Simon Trickster: a Game in which the player must remember and repeat a sequence of musical tones/button presses. (I have not played this game myself, but it’s accessible as far as I know. Groove it: bop it, but with various hand motions. (This game will require some adaptation, since the instruction manual which explains how to do the various hand motions uses pictures, but the movements are simple to describe.)

Thanks a lot, that's quite the list! She has some of those but I'll check it the rest. Appreciate it!

What about stim or sensory toys? Like pop-its or chew necklaces... Or an Audible or Spotify subscription? There are books you can listen to for free on Audible with a subscription, and Spotify has podcasts.
I can't think of a reason why she couldn't learn to skateboard or play an instrument like this guy: https://www.instagram.com/asfvision/.

Yeah, books seem like a great idea. Just gotta find the genres or authors that she enjoys.

These guys are great https://64ozgames.com/ Also metal puzzles are awesome too, the one with twisted bits of metal that you have to figure out how to get apart

This is what I came here to say!

Oh how are the 64oz Games quality for their board games? I ordered a set of dice through them and they were garbage, but it might just have been a cheap 3D printer. I'm curious about those metal puzzles though.

So far I've just got stuff for card games but they were pretty good with only one or two mistakes

Does she have an IPhone, if not she might want to get one, applevis.com has quite a few games but I can't think of any that tell you exactly what to do.
Can she use youtube and things like that, it's a graet time waister :)

So I ended up getting her a woojer wearable subwoofer that she can use while listening to music. I also found a game called "what's that smell" on Amazon. Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll be using those for her birthday!

This is more arts and crafts but I love modeling clay and those velvet posters and coloring books from the 90s are great for feeling outline and coloring around it.
