you can buy a light that clips to it. Other than that, just do the obvious: wear a whistle/alarm, keep people updated with your travel times/routes - regular sensible precautions for someone alone late at night in a messed-up world.
don't rely on your cane as a weapon - they shatter easily, have pour tensile strength and are easily damaged.
If you're concerned about losing it, a tile/airtag or similar might be useful.

My wife has an important cane accessory she keeps in her pocket...brass knuckles. ...er..um .... I mean a paper weight.

Hi there!! I’m a legally blind teen and I thought I would reach out and share my experience. For me, confidence has always been key. I get harassed ALL the time bc I don’t look blind (like tf???) so if you’re just overly confident people usually get out of your way. Also at night stick to places that have a lot of noise, I have light perception at night but that’s it, and it’s very disorienting so I just keep my eyes shut. It’s harder to navigate with all of the sounds in a city but I feel safer there since I know it’s a public area. Also yes, highly recommend some type of protective equipment, brass knuckles are a good one that I use (no joke lmao) bc I don’t have the coordination to hit my target without sight from a distance. Also when in doubt, act like you’re absolutely feral. Has saved me a few times, and I’m pretty sure I look like an idiot, but if they think you have rabies ur doing it right. ALSOOO like come on that cane can pack a punch, and pencil tip canes are basically spears like come on 🤠💪

It's all about learning to trust your cane, provided your cane skills have a good foundation. Also, pepper spray is a good companion. I recommend pepper gel since it doesn't carry as easily with the wind. Check your local laws to see how much you can carry. Have you got an iPhone? Get an AirTag and put it on the end of the chord.
