Suggestions on a gift for my visually impaired grandmother? (self.Blind)
submitted by KTBoo
Hello all, I really don’t want to make you do work for my ignorance, but I have been having such a hard time thinking of a gift for her and I was hoping you might be able to help.

My grandmother lost her visual acuity about three years ago. Along with it, she lost the ability to do many of her hobbies in the same way she used to. She was an avid oil painter and played a lot of Bridge with her friends, neither of which she can do any more.

She’s not really in a place to learn any sort of complicated things now either, like Braille or anything very techy.

She’s in a new assisted living facility and is bored out of her mind. Although I’ve gotten her other sensory gifts like soft things and scented candles, I would love to get her something that she could do- maybe even something that would help her continue her old hobbies.

Do y’all have any suggestions as far as activities/hobbies that I could get her that she could learn easily and enjoy?

Thank you in advance!

This was so helpful thank you!! I got her some giant cards that I’m hoping might help her play with her friends again.

Bad suggestion but I feel like I'd go with. A nice bottle of her type of alcohol

Wine, whiskey, bourbon, or bear. All is accepted in there own unique ways. Skimp or extravagance your choice.

Audio books are awesome gifts. I always lean towards the " abridged " versions. They act out the voices of the characters. 2 steps off from a movie in my opinion. A great one I personally love Is max Brooks world war Z. The whole book is mini stories spliced together to show the aftermath of a zombie war. Probably not good for granny but there's others of similar type. Shop around for her genre.
