looking for advice or help for my brother (self.Blind)
submitted by crowie0605
I have a rather strange question.

My younger brother recently had an accident that has left him with severe vision loss, he loves reading comics on the marvel unlimited app but now has issues. I have been reading them to him but, we are looking for a better fix.

does anyone know of any programs or any way to have the comics red out using the phone app or website?

Im sorry if this doesn't belong on this reddit page but Im run out of ideas on where to look.

There are actually a number of people working on this! https://spinweaveandcut.com/blind-accessible-comics/ is one place to look. You can also search for "accessible comics" or "accessible graphic novels" to find other resources. Good luck!

Sorry to hear about your brother. I'm not sure if this will help, but maybe the National Library Service for the Deaf and Blind maybe could help. They have audio books, magazines, etc that are free if he qualifies. You would just need documentation from his physician and complete an application. They have all kinds of publications. Good luck!

The NLS wouldn't be available to the OP as they're from Australia. The Vision Australia Information and Library Service, the equivalent organization, would not be able to help as comics are not part of their collection guidelines.

I think comics are still quite underrepresented as accessible media. Are there perhaps vloggers, youtubers and the like, who may describe and interpret them perhaps?

There was a guy who did it a few years ago under the name Comics Empower, but a post here from a few days ago said that his work is no longer available.
