iPhone 13 pro mini HELP (self.Blind)
submitted by Trick-Regret-493
So I finally broke down to get a cell phone... slightly forced because
Christmas gift...

My family was hoping this will help me with various things and I'm sure it will. But it's a pain in the ass to set up....
SOME of What I'm hoping to get from it

(please mention anything that helps you)

My speech is bad from the stroke so talk to text is frustrating yet typing is a chore. So can Siri learn what I mean?

Reading Reddit posts, DMs, and articles. My eyes get lost in mountains of text ( like this post)

Setting up med alarms out side of schedule

Making a schedule.[daily and random events]

My memory is also quite shotty so I may add as I remember.

Screen reader w a quick command

Please help me not go full boomer and return it for the flip phone jitter bug( jk and not trying to offend boomers I secretly want the jitter bug)

Side note for context my blindness is due to field limit so big is not good for me.

I just had an eye surgery so I'll be on and off as uncomfortability allows

Thanks famalam!

Don't forget to drop apps that help you.

the native apple's calendar, alarm and reminders apps are all accessible with voiceover.

Im not familiar with voice over yet...
I haven't had a phone since before the stroke, but it really messed with my memory so it might as well be my first time...
So start with setting up voice over?
ukifrit 5 points 1y ago
yeah. Try the triple click on the side button. If it doesn't start, go on settings, accessibility, voiceover then turn it on.

Thanks for the help!
Also slightly off topic but on Reddit mobile are you supposed to click the little arrow to respond to each response or just the main one?
Because if I click on my notifications and then type in the box provided it shows up at the bottom of the post. Not as a response to the comment I'm replying to?
Thanks

I honestly don't know. I don't use reddit mobile, distopia is better. It's on beta though.

Click on the arrow at the bottom of the comment you want to respond to. It should appear after it. Or if you want to respond to the post, click on the arrow at the bottom of the post itself. Not on a comment. Also you should check out all of the accessibility settings under accessibility in the settings app. There’s a whole visual section where you can change contrast and font and manage short cuts and things like that.

If you’re still having trouble it may be worth getting some assistive technology training as wel as other types of trainings.

Yes you can train Siri to understand you better. There is an option to change pronunciation I believe although I am not yet fully versed in Apple products either as I prefer android. I spent a good part of an evening last week teaching Siri how to say my name because she could not understand. I also have not been able to figure out how to have Apple products switch between multiple languages like android can do so if you are used to a different pronunciation or different pronunciation or different languages there will hopefully be away to find for her to understand
