A few weeks ago I (30's M) became blind in one eye. I am still slowly accepting that fact. I feel like I'm in this awkward middle zone of dealing with vision loss, but still being able to see with my good eye. I've read accounts of people who grew up with one eye, but I haven't seen too many with sudden loss as an adult. Are there any good resources out there for this kind of situation? Thank you.

I’m a blind male but younger than you! If you need anyone to talk to I’m here!

Hi! (Blind male) Good Resources would be to maybe check Facebook groups for adults with sudden vision loss. Some places that can help you with low vision are Maxiaids.com or independentlivingaids.com and going to your local eye office.

the reason I created this sub is because of these facebook groups being really disconnected.

Do a search on Amazon for "monocular" and you'll find a lot of them at a reasonable price. You can also check out maxiaids.com. They have a lot of low vision aids. I would try to get a low vision assessment if you haven't already.

I went through this a few years ago. I didn’t get much medical support but I’ve adapted pretty well. Hit me up with any questions..

I've been blind in my left eye since birth. I have no concept of what seeing out of two eyes or having depth perception is "supposed" to look like. I'd be happy to help you find resources in your area. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have.
Have you gotten in touch with your state's commission for the blind? Do you think you would benefit from orientation and mobility training? Have you met with a low vision specialist? Do you think you require accommodations for work or school?

Are you in America? Check with your local state's department of services for the blind.

There's a website forum and a Facebook group both.called Lost Eye. People join who have lost an eye or the vision in one eye.

Hey man! :)) I’d recommend going to look online for some support groups, there’s surely plenty out there.
I’m 19 M and I’ve lived the way you recently have started my entire life, I would be more than happy to lend you any amount of support you might want, feel free to talk to me anytime, I can help you navigate this new world you’re entering. It’s very difficult at times, but you gotta power through and make the best of your situation!

I found myself in your same situation about 5 years ago. The main thing it has changed is I avoid ball sports. Didn’t play any previously anyway. Every once in a while I miss when someone hands me something and I have no perspective of distance. The main thing I’ve found is I put out my hand to have people give me stuff instead of taking it from them. Otherwise I don’t even tell people and no one figures it out.

Just this, you can do it.
I know it seems tough but at least you have 1 good eye.
