Bag/Case for folding canes with rolling ball tip? (self.Blind)
submitted by Mamamagpie
I’m about to get my first folding cane. What do you all put yours in to keep other things clean?

When I'm out my cane fits in the water bottle holder on my backpack or a side pocket on my leather laptop bag. At home I used to keep it folded but now as I've started using it oftener I tend to keep it extended by the door; I think this is better for the elastic also. I keep a pack of Clorox wipes to clean the tip.

If I'm going sighted guide or even just talking to people and not actively trying to get somewhere I still like to have it with me and usually keep it folded under my arm just in case I need it.

Ambutech has some but they’re expensive for what it is. I ended up buying some cloth straw pouches on Amazon. Cheap and works perfect in any of my bags so the dirty cane tip doesn’t touch everything. Measure your cane folded to make sure it’ll fit.

$1 is the link to what i ordered.

I actually just talked to my oh a m person from the commission for the blind here in my state about this and they have holsters they provide if people wanted them not sure what those are where they get them but I guess those exist.

What sort of tip do you have?

I mostly use the marshmallow and it fits perfect. I can fit it in there with the rolling ball tip, but it does take more effort to get it in the pouch and is tight.

I might try the bags Amazon has for the support mobility canes, since those need room for the handle.

I considered those too but thought they’d be too big. Whatever works for you though!

At home I keep mine fully extended and behind the bedroom door. Maybe I'm paranoid but I think keeping a cane folded up exposes the elastic to the sharp edges of each cylinder.

In the car I fold it once, near the center, so it fits in the car.

The only time I fold it all the way is when I'm on an airplane and need to stow it in the overhead compartment, and when I do that I just put my backpack on top of it.

To clean my canes I use a baby wipe. I have an aluminum cane and a graphite cane, one I use for outdoors and the other for indoors. The outdoor one needs to be cleaned more often than the indoor one.

I thinking of where to put while on buses and trains. I seldom go anywhere in a car. It will live unfolded at home.

I’m mostly think very crowded public transportation settings.

Mine usually at least at home is folded and in the water bottle holder on my backpack which holds it pretty well, when I'm out going somewhere it is usually folded standing near my feet in the car. When out somewhere I've found it fits into the inside pocket of one of my coats rather well, I haven't actually thought of carrying it around in a bag though that's not a half bad idea if someone else has a suggestion for a style or type that would be an idea I would second and answer to.

Could you just hold it or keep it beside you? I either hold it or set. It on the ground right next to me. Or on the chair next to mine. If I am standing and talking to someone I’ll just hold it vertically with the tip on the ground sometime I willl lean against it. In fact the cane I use the most does not fold at all.

I found a nylon pouch that used to hold reusable shopping bag, fits over the roller perfectly.

I don’t like having it out on buses and trains. More than once people have grabbed my cane thinking it was one of poles to hold onto.

That’s really interesting or weird no one has done that with my cane quite yet. And interesting I am glad it works.

I found my EDC bag. It is sling bag from WATERFLY. It this cool pocket for umbrellas with a bungee cord loop you can cinch tight. The water bottle pocket also has a bungee cord you can cinch tight, so you skinny bottle doesn’t fall out.

I use a cane holster that goes on my belt
